1978 Schiada 20 SS

Thrashing on another build....

Picked this up a few weeks ago

Started tearing her down yesterday

Subfloor was soft and I like seeing conditions the of stringers. Good thing I pulled the subfloor because stringers are shot. Bulkhead doesnt look horrible, but it will be replaced.

I am going to have every hole in the boat filled, new stringers, new transom, new bulkheads, bottom blueprinted, capped, carbon fiber glass layered inside & the hull regelled.

Looks just like the last 20'! Who's doing the glass work for you??

Trailer will be gone through once I drop the hull off. The previous owner welded on mid bunk brackets. I need to finish welding them and grind them smooth. I need to remount the fender so they sit lower and closer to the tires for a better look. I also need to cut the nose off and make it a swing away so it fits in my backyard.

These are always enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing.

Id love to have a 20 some day. Maybe timing will be right when you're done with this one

This will be a fun build to follow. Looking forward to it.

thats a bummer man, I didnt realize Tracer Marine was going to be shutting down. Sucks losing all of these great shops, they take their knowledge and skill and we're left with a vacuum.

Actually, I heard WOT Marine has a great glass/gel guy! I am planning on taking my wood Crackerbox to him next year. Give WOT Marine a call.

Stu has been doing this for a long, long time. Going to miss his skills down the road.

Stu made the mold for my GBR Crackerbox and has laid the hulls up.

You mentioned Regelled?
Are you going to keep the same exterior Gelcoat theme? Or Change it up?

100% Completely Different. It will have a Bright White Non-Skid Deck and whatever Gel colors I decide to go with.

She's gutted. Bulkhead cut out. Sub floor under front the deck / in front of previous bulkhead ripped out. Wood in transom gone. Fiberglass work will start in 1-2 months

These photos make me itchy. This will be a fun one to watch. I love old school hulls with new school builds.

I was good the first couple of grindings. On the last grinding, I put a white pain suite on and kept most of the dust out. For some reason, right after I was done and showered, my skin, head to tow had an allergic reaction and my whole body was itching bad. I took a Clariton allergy medicine and it stopped after about 30 minutes. I think it was because I took a super cold shower to rinse and cool off. Fuck that sucked balls!

Just for this thread, I posted a thread in the lounge to get ideas for the gel. Everyone picked a little of everything, but it helped see the light to pick the winning gel scheme. As of now, the boat will have a white bottom with red strakes

This is an ambitious project. I really like the 20 footers, how do they perform with big power ?

what was the reasoning for going with shorter / fatter tanks vs extending them down the side and keeping them more narrow?

They do great, I had one with an approximate 1000 hp turbo engine that I ski raced with years ago.

UP For Sale: 1978 Schiada 20SS
Non Negotiable Cash Price: $15K. I bought it for $14K and put 3 full days into cutting & grinding.
I purchased this boat over the summer. I've already put quite a bit of the Demo work into ripping out the subfloors, transom, & bulkheads.
I was going to have new stringers, bulkhead, transom, gauge holes filled, capped, & re-gelled. I'd rather have someone purchase the hull the way it is to have their own desired gel scheme/floor finish/etc.
I have 2 Aluminum Fuel Tanks, T400 Tranny, 12* Casale V-Drive, & other riggings gear.
This is going to be an exciting project for someone that wants a BAD ASS boat. I had a 1979 20SS for 12 years that I ran the shit out of on the Parker Strip. The 20 SS's are Bitchen boats.
I am going to build a new race boat for GN, Enduro, & Waterski Racing. I will have the hull laid up lighter so it can be more competitive.
This will come with a dual axle trailer. I have them fenders for the trailer as well.
I have the Pink Slips for both the Hull and the trailer.

No lie, i am kinda bummed by this news, I was looking forward to the build thread.

Oh, do a build thread on the race boat please, its going to be a long cold winter and lord knows we can't survive on Speed UTV threads alone.

I will definitely do a build thread on the new boat. As much as I want to keep this and get this build done, I need a hull a little lighter to be competitive out there racing.
