What I learned from this is never date a cops ex wife.
^Seems this could be confirmed shortly.^ Snopes not Confirm or Deny. Same with “Newsweek” they looking into situation. Nichols did work @Fed Ex

Snopes quote
“None of the speculation online has been confirmed from official sources, including Nichols' family and legal team. We reached out to the Memphis police, Ben Crump, the attorney for Nichols' family, as well as FedEx to learn if any of the above claims are accurate. Without confirmation from the parties involved, we cannot confirm or deny these allegations.”

This statement is inaccurate. CA POST does regulate the hiring of police officers and these regulations/standards are clearly laid out in both the CA Penal Code and Government Code. POST conducts audits of peace officer backgrounds annually to ensure these standards are being followed. Lastly, SB2 was recently passed, and was implemented this year, which gives POST new authority in "Certifying" police officers. ALL CA cops (even those currently employed) must be certified through POST. In order for a police officer to be certified, all hiring standards have to be met as laid out in the governing codes.

Additionally, all misconduct must now be reported to POST and will be looked at by a newly formed panel to determine whether or not the officer is still eligible for certification. If the misconduct warrants decertification, the police officer loses his police powers and can no longer be employed by any CA police agency regardless of the outcome of the internal investigation. It used to be that podunk police departments could hire second chancers (those who have been fired) but that is no more. The standards across CA must be met as per the law.

Granted the pool of eligible/qualified applicants is lower than it has been in years, but, there are still large hiring events being conducted by larger agencies. Believe it or not, even with the lower numbers, there are quite a few people who want to be cops, and thousands of applications are processed and investigated annually.
