For this non event, where is everyone going to launch? The last few times I have been to Mead we stayed at Temple Bar, wondering if that is an option or will you launch at Hemenway or Callville Bay?

A group meet up at Temple Bar would be a blast . Only problem is maybe the launch ramp . In August the ramp at Hemminway would be a nightmare . Anybody been to Temple Bar lately ? I think they’ve fixed it …

Why would Hemingway be a nightmare?

Why would Hemingway be a nightmare?
Because Hemingway is the only ramp at that end of the lake , think Site 6 amateur hour . Plus , August is prime time boating for the masses out of Vegas . Most “ Vegas “ people don’t have a vehicle that can make the drive and back to Temple Bar , therefore no crowds ! Notice Vegas is in quotes , I’m being a little facetious …

Staying at Hoover Dam lodge and casino
The Lodge is as good as any around, especially for first timers.
Some nice Historical artifacts in there. Be sure to catch the non stop video of the founding and development of the dam and the area.

A nice tour is to Launch/Start at the Hemenway/ Las Vegas Boat harbor area, cruise up to the dam, then over to Calville, then through the Canyon to the Wishing Well,
then through the Narrows into the Virgin Basin (just maybe the nicest body of water on the whole flipping river), then up the Overton Arm to check out the B-29 Crash site/Buoy. (I haven't seen the buoy in awhile, is it still there?) Then cruise up River to Temple Bar, (be sure to check out the 'Temple' bar on the left.
Cruise on past to 'Big Sandy.' Right around here or a little past is Where the 'Muddy Colorado' hits the lake. Slow down and be careful.
Lake Mead is why Hallett's have big tanks...

Regarding Launching at Hemenway, we launch and retrive early thirty.
Sat mornings and Sunday afternoons can get a little testy. What's cool about Mead, is you see all these people in and around Hemenway, once out to the Virgin basin, where'd they go??

Lodging,
Hoover Dam Lodge, Many places in Boulder, Best Western 'Lighthouse' on highway between Boulder and the turn off to Mead.
And there is Lake Las Vegas, a little more of a drive but nicer digs.

Mead is different that most places as there is no where to stay on the water. But the lake is Awesome.

We are putting this on the Calender.

Just launched my 240 at Hemingway 2 weeks ago, it’s 5 lanes now.

My only complaint is the rangers put some stupid muscle sign on the ramp right in the way of where you want to pull up after turning around so you can get a straight shot at the water.

Yes we were there recently the ramp is MOBI MATT fairly shallow and all the close parking is all dirt and not a lot of room for large group unless you feel like a nice walk in the heat to park on the non usable concrete ramp area. It's doable also a pretty tight swing around to line up to splash. I have a 24' ULTRA and launched and my truck was up to the back bumper.

The water level has come up a little since we were there

To be honest I wouldn't the path to the ramp was really chattering semi rocky . My 3500 4x4 had no problems but a slow role down the path I wasn't to thrilled even with our big truck. They attempted to grade it and drag it with a back hoe tractor

Regarding fuel on the water there are 3, Temple Bar, Callville and Las Vegas Boat Harbor.
I believe Las Vegas Boat Harbor is the only one with Premium. Plan accordingly...

Hemenway should be fine. We used it all last summer. It’s like 5 lanes

Hemingway has the cheapest gas usually out of the three. At least that was last year .

Booked at the Hoover Lodge…not even sure I can make this yet but booked anyway. Never gone to Mead before…been on the bucket list. My only worry is getting my 270 in and out solo…what does everyone recommend? Curious how long that run from Hemenway to Temple Bar is…looks like a killer run.

Just go courtesy dock. Way easier. Any slips to fit a 30 are a 4 mile hike haha.
It was nice when we were there recently I was going to put my boat in a slip and they just said use the courtesy dock They weren't charging to use it so we just left our tied up to the courtesy dock that could be a possibility too

As the trip get's closer, we can share contact info, etc. I will happily help you launch and retrieve. I'm also staying at the Boulder damn lodge.

Mead was my weekend go to place for years. It's a long ride up through the narrows to Temple Bar, but it's a fun ride. On the throttle the whole way. @Runs2rch would know better, but I think it's like 40-45 minutes? Although that was in a slug of a boat.

Thank you Sir! I appreciate that…my lady hasn't graduated from trailer school yet. Totally down for a Temple Bar run. Really hope we can make this, my lady has a conflict on that Sunday she's trying to work out so we may end up going home on Saturday if we can pull this off.
Question…slip or no slip? It would kinda suck to have to trailer the boats everyday. Saw the post about courtesy dock but fear a limited amount.

I spoke to the marina and they said to just get the courtesy slip. If those aren't available, she will get you into an open slip behind the security gate. Be prepared for a looooooooong walk if you get one back there.

I am leaving my boat in the water, so I don't have to retrieve / trailer on the daily.

Do you have to set up the docking situation ahead of time?

I’m all for a shirt or two. However, why create more work for yourself instead of just coming out and enjoying the time with everyone. Make it fun for you and Brie, not work.
I dunno. It just came up as a thought in text. I don’t “want to” but I can.

here is the deal with launching.

right now the water is up considerably. enough so that 4 abreast could launch at hemingway. the closed ramp at the old las vegas marina is 100% useable, but NPS refuses to open the ramp. i havent been over to Callville, but the ramp should be very useable.

temple bar is likely useable if you have a 4wd vehicle. but havent been that far up the lake this year so i dont have current data on it.

this is all based on water levels NOW. august could be a very different story.

just do like the bass boat (and many others) guys do. back it in tight up against the courtesy dock, pull it off and tie it to the dock, then go park.

hemingway straight line to temple bar has to be 60+ miles.......
