You could not be more wrong.Directv and others pay the content creators by subscriber. When people access that content without paying for it, they are stealing it under federal and state law. That is why they have fights, they don’t want an increase in costs that either affect their margins or require increases in their customers fees.
You can not buy a device at Walmart that allows one to illegally acquire content. They are a deep pocket and would be sued.
They do sell boxes as well as tv’s that contain software and hardware to access content on line legally.
However, unlike a magic box, their purpose and intent is not to help users steal content, but to access content more easily and legally.
With respect to super stream and other boxes, it does not on its own provide for the illegal use of content. You can however acquire third party applications to steal content. However, under the law, just as a knife manufacturer isn’t liable if their product is used to stab someone, superstream isn’t liable if someone uses their product to illegally steal and break the law.
Stealing content is just that, stealing. And no rationalizing will change that fact. Although many are simply fine with stealing.
Walmart sells the exact same box…and many other boxes…as does Amazon, as does Newegg, as does dozens of other retailers.
This is the future of tv.
Content creators will adapt. Just like monetizing of music eventually adapted to streaming and P2P apps, so too will tv.
No one buys albums, very few buy CD’s, my grandkids laugh at my DVD collection.
Can you explain to me how DTV could possibly offer me a far more inclusive package than I had ($205 a month) for $49 a month with no expiration date after I cancelled?
How in the world is that financially feasible?
I’ll tell you how, because just like anything with a subscriber base the value is in numbers.
The more subscribers, the more value in advertiser fees.
My monthly subscription payment was immaterial in the equation. It’s just icing on the cake.
