Hey Everyone, so I've seen allot of posts on the topic, on the forum and others, but I really haven't found a clear thread with some actual part numbers etc.

So I'm trying to secure the parts needed for a refresh "top end".

This is what I have been able to find:

* Cometic head gaskets
* ARP head studs
* insky 8005 springs

What I'm not clear on:

* Which rockers? Some say Scorpion but what part number🤷‍♂️ other options?
* valve spring seats, cups retainers?
* just a muffler shop to check the headers for leaks, cracks etc. I'm assuming?
* what else?
Serial number : OM950030

I appreciate the feedback, prop is good FYI😉

Are you planning on doing this work yourself, or having a shop do it? It's fairly important to get the valve springs measured and set at the correct height.

Keep in mind that you can get parts from Summit in about 2 days usually. If you are pulling the heads, might as well get a shop to touch up the valve job if necessary. I don't know what hardware comes on those heads stock, so some measuring for spring cups is in order. I have a spring tester I use to help me determine installed height. I don't know that it's necessary to change over to head studs, but you can be the judge of that. Cometic gaskets are good. The basic Scorpion rockers have not failed on any of my engines yet. Don't know how hard you run yours.

Thank you, I figure while it's apart might as well do the head studs...we don't scream on the water, but occasionally like to open her up, I spoke with cometic, they recommended talking with the machine shop after heads are resurfaced to get the correct height.

If the block is still stock, standard bore, I would guess the piston will be down in the hole a bit, but you can measure that. I don't think any minor surfacing of the heads would require thicker head gaskets to keep the compression down.

Years ago I successfully ran a turbo ski race engine with 15 lbs of boost using regular head bolts rather than studs.
