I would like to know where to get or borrow the software to completely wipe out the info on a hard drive. I have 8 that needs the info wiped out.

I always figured a 8lb. sledge is the best way.

If it's a PC just open a command promt window. Type the following:

c:\format

That will wipe it out.

BCWipe is what I use. It meets DoD requirements. Once it's wiped it's gone. It's freeware

Actually 3 or 4 of them aren't big enough to hold anything. I think I have 2 that are 1295 mb and 2 or 3 that are 5.1 g. Those I will put in the drill press and a 3/8" hole should do the trick. :skull:D

Thank you for the info. Now I can get these wiped out and then re-use them without the fear of someone getting my companies info.

That will not destroy the data, any simple recovery program will still be able to recover 99% of what was on the drive. to completely erase you need to use a tool that writes random data to the entire drive, there are many versions of these, the best ones i have seen work on a bootable cd that loads a lite version of linux and wipes the drive.
