gimmick? its more secure than any credit card in your wallet. for starters its encrypted. theres blueooth security that shuts it down when it goes out of distance of your phone for a certain time. theres no numbers, expiration date, or cv2 for someone to write down if they even did get physical possession of the card, etc. its a huge step forward in credit card technology for consumers while not requiring businesses to upgrade anything... which is the main reason why credit cards in general havent moved forward at all... no one will buy the machines to use em. the only problem is that businesses with old and outdated credit card policies still require the cashier to check stupid things like a signature on the back of the card. because they're all handwriting specialists, able to distinguish between what i can barely scribble on the kiosk with a stylus pen vs what i wrote on my card. or a 4 digit pin number... THATS secure.

i ordered a few and ive been a big supporter of their devices. i wish them the best of luck and that businesses adapt and welcome their more secure cards over traditional junk plastic.

^^^ I use to write "Check ID" on the signature panel of all my credit cards. I no longer do this, because after several years not one person ever asked to see my ID.

I went to the post office not too long ago and used my credit card. No signature on the back. They would't take it unless I signed the back. I told them I would sign "check ID" which is usually what I do. They wouldn't take that. Only a signature. OK, so I signed my name. Guess what, they didn't check my signature on my ID or on the screen I signed. Idiots... Whats the point???

Yeah it's a little hard to trust my cards to this assclown. There is something to be said for a professional image in this kind of work.

dont be so quick to judge a book by its cover... yahoo and google also dont have very strict dress codes and encourage to be "out of the box" and I'm sure you use them all the time. Take a look at the office of zappos.com, largest shoe company in the world. that tatted up thug looking gangsta probably is stealing your money!

I like the idea, but I can see that bad person with one of the readers, swiping your card into theirs at a restaurant or something

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

All you have to do is get a reader from Square and some free software off the internet and you can make all sorts of MAG stripe cards to fill your gas tank up for free.

Further, with all your cards on Coin, I suspect a good hacker can hack it and now have the ability to skim all your cards, versus just one at a time before.

This tech is already built into your iPhone 5s. Hasn't been activated yet but apple bought this tech some time ago. Credit cards are going the way of the dinosaur.

Great idea, not sure about the price point though, $100 seems a little spendy. All the security worries mentioned are valid, but they could do that right now with your card when they walk to the back to run it. Or, if you lost your wallet, they have all your cards anyways. I only carry 4 cards with me, but I like the fact you can put gift cards on there, thats cool. Nobody wants to carry those with you all the time, and how many times have ended up somewhere and forgot to use it or left it at home??

As is the fossil fuel burning car engine, but it will take a long time.

A vast majority of the merchants in the world still use dial up and do not have an internet connection. It is going to take a long time to replace all that equipment, application software and security throughout the world. I suspect you might find plastic around for a lot longer than you think. Mag stripe, may be gone sooner but the chip enabled card will be around for decades.

I like the idea but I don't want to fund their company.

The company is doing something that may not be legal. They are asking for a pre-order of $55 and will charge you immediately for it. They don't even have a ship date, that looks to be possibly 9 months from now, maybe. Not providing product within 30 days means they can't charge your CC.

But at least they will have your credit card information with billing address. What could possibly go wrong? :D

i believe they're working under a crowdfunding/kickstarter model... so im not sure if they really have to supply a product by a certain date.
