Let me just throw this out there. This is meant with no disrespect--just an observation.

Why is it that employers are willing to waste their time and the applicant's time by not disclosing a salary range for a job? I remember the last time the RE market tanked I interviewed for several financial jobs. I was offered the job on two occasions. However, I had to turn it down both times because I could not survive on the pay. This was a huge waste of time for myself and the employer. I just don't get the whole "salary is a secret" mentality. It would make sense to weed out anyone up-front that cannot/will not work for the pay the employer has in mind.

Any thoughts or comments?

Well, I am willing to pay what is necessary to get a good employee. If a decent person comes in and has a decent interview, but no job experience, I am not going to pay them what a person with great background gets.

Also, Outnumbered, the job I have has a couple "perks", that the person who I hire, can take advantage of or pass on. It is up to them. He or she can "deliver our product, after hours, and add a lot of coin into his or her pocket. i am talking a couple hundred dollars, which can be substantial pay increase in pay. It just depends on them.

$9.00/hour base pay....44- 50 hours per week. Option to make $500 - $1000 or more extra per month. for someone with no work history.

Good luck, although it was entertaining to read. I guess with no work history, but you still wont get a quality employee.

I agree
I would want to know the good, the bad and the ugly of the job/position before I make the call or the trip to the office. It would save time and money for everyone involved.
It would be nice to know about the general job requirements, basic qualifications, typical responsibilities, base pay or salary range and most important the benefits and perks for working at this company.

Good luck, although it was entertaining to read. It would take $17 + to get someone decent to work those hours, and provide their own truck.

That is real good pay for a high school graduate. I can tell you it is a lot better than flipping burgers or working a cash register at a retail store....
I can't tell you what I pay for someone with a great job history, because it would depend on a lot of factors as to what I would pay them... what were they making at their previous job, how long have they been unemployed, why did they leave their previous job what jobs have had....
I was asked what the job pay range was, and I felt this the best way to give an idea of the pay.

I can't discuss the particulars on a public forum, because i haven't let the guy go yet....
Hence the reason for sending me a PM if interested....

With all due respect, this is what it boils down to...

Wanted: employee to work a normal Monday thru Friday. But don't go out and party on Friday because I'm going to fuck you every weekend since you have to come in on Saturday morning and piss away half the day. Then, when you get home, the day is shot. Then you can do whatever you want, but you only have Sunday to yourself. I know we're in California, the most expensive place on the continent, but I'm only going to pay you $9 an hour. On the positive side, if you really want to piss your life away to me, you have the potential to make $500 to $1000 more per month.

Who the hell would jump at that? Seriously?

Wow! Usually this is the kind of thread I read only, don't want to get too serious. But, I gotta speak up. What happened to working hard, teaching work ethic to your kids and being satisified that you did a good days work for your pay. I could go on and on but I will guarantee if this job is posted on a job site or in the newspaper the response will be overwhelming, many from over qualified people willing to work their tails off and miss a few Friday nights of partying with friends to save for that new car or just to take care of themselves. Just my opinion.

I don't think anyone means any ill will by their takes and everyone makes a interesting point with compairasons.

10 bux an hour with bennies is the starting rate around here. Enterprise Rent a car, Home Depot,, In N Out,, some start even higher.

No one should get their feelings hurt.

I totally agree, but it's just to bad that isn't the reality of it. The differences is, if you are looking for that kinda of employee, they won't be willing to sacrafice their life for the kind of money offered.

I feel HP would actually benefit more by hiring 2 different entry level people (which would usually be young adults trying to go through school). Also, he wouldn't have to deal with the overtime pay. I don't think HP is trying to screw anyone, but trying to get the best ROI with his employee. Problem being with that pay range, the employees have a different mentality and jobs in that market are not hard to come by. It's sad to say there will never be any loyalty, from either side, in that pay range.

Loosely translated. That or don't make them pass a drug test, the people not the monkeys.

I see it around here with my business partner's other business. He has employees on that pay scale, and I can't figure out how most of them make it through the day.

I am not setting that as the pay rate!!!! I chose to show the starting pay for an entry level employee!!!!

Hello....I am willing to pay more!!!

It is like someone calling and asking to buy a car. How much is it.... well, it depends on a few options... do you want air conditioning, do you want power windows....
The base price of the car is xxx.xx In my case the base employee would make $9.00 per hour. If said employee hae power windows or airbags:D, I expect the price to go up... Anyone that is willing can do the job... It is not rocket science...I will pay what I have to!!!:beer

Sorry, that was more of a generalized statement, not directed towards you in any way.

I like the analogy of the car!

What exactly is the business you are in? Just curious.

Okay, I have now fired the guy, so I can talk about it. We sell deliver and install spiral staircases. It is really a great job. I started out almost 14 years ago at the entry level position. I am now the manager. We are a medium size company, it is a family business, not my family, damn it, and they treat us pretty well.
The right person will answer phones when they ring, not cold call, wait on customers, when they come in to our shop, unload truck deliveries (forklift), load stairs into customers vehicles(when they come for a pick-up), prep stairs when we are sending it out for an install (separate crew), and keep the place clean.

Armchair? Come on, dude. I'm not telling the guy how to run his business, so I don't know where you get the idea of armchair quarterbacking. To post an offer which I deem laughable, I'm going to comment on. Don't like it, don't read it. Some guys find it funny to trash an anonymous ebay guy for claiming a 100 mph boat, but you think you're going to chastise me for commenting on an employers embarrasing offer, because he's one of ours? Fuck that. If your feelings are hurt, I'm sure you'll get over it.

It's really funny....I posted this on another forum, got a pm from someone, and I am waiting on them to show up to fill out an application... no drama...
might work out, might not.. still... no drama.... I was just wanting to help out people I feel have the same interests as me. I can put an ad in the paper, go to monster.com, or put a sign out in the front of my building, or I can post it where I feel I might be able to reach my "internet friend"s... friends and family that might be in need of a job. i chose to go that route. If I was expecting a warehouse manager with 10 years experience, a stellar background, and a PHD in management, I would have gone a different route...

That info is off their website, and the $100K means full time for promotions.
A neighbor up the street manages 2 In n outs and makes much more.
But I think the job must really suck. He is always gone leaving a stunning, lonely 10 rated wife at home alone all the time with the kids.

Not jumping to any conclusions to Harlypauls offer because I have no clue to what the over all pay vs results are, but seems about right.

My point is most business start a greenhorn with no skills at about $10 bux an hour, and I should add a few, not all, offer bennies

I believe any business that requires the employee furnish their own transportation to conduct business should pay more than just gas reimbursement.

Enterprise/Budget/Hertz offers no bennies to most their employees who are usually retirees on medicare. But if you choose to jump into their career plan, some bennies are available.

Medical coverage is essential. Costco, Lowes, In n Out offer medical coverage,, even Wal Mart has a feeble plan.

Sons cancer treatments would easily be $200.000 by now if I didn't have him on my medical. And that's just over the past 10 months with 6 more months to go.

Wife is in the cancer treatment field at Norris,, so we believe that take to be very accurate.

Or my son could used the basic, agonizingly sparse taxpayers medical system at County and probably die like the rest.

At 18, our daughter walked into a studio wardrobe job at $39 per hour + incredable, astronomical bennies & job security because she has skills.

She's flirting with $50 an hour now at age 22, with over $60K stuffed into her retirement plans already, $75 k by this time next year. Read that: retirement plans.

I hope she doesn't develop our families Flying Bowtie painfull lower back where you can't work anymore, period, nothing. If so,, she's working her way to be financially ready.

Don't say fuck the future, the future fucks you.
You wake up one morning in bed and that is where you stay.

I suggest anyone entering the job market get a skill.
Trade Tech, Jr/community Colleges offer all kinds of training. Plumbing, Electrical,, Air Conditioning, Elevators,, get skills and get paid.

Or take $10 per hour for OJT.

I got my skills in the Marine Corps/Navy schools at Shithouse Bay, North Carolina,, then on the job of 4 long years in the big green suck.
USMC stands for; "You Signed The Motherf#ckin Contract"

Old Jewish proverb: "Find thy Teacher."

I hope anything I mentioned in my posts in this thread doesn't grate or rub anyone the wrong way.
Not meant to be,, just a friendly discussion and takes.

good luck on the employee thing. It's hard to find good help and I don't care how much you're paying them. I know plenty of big buck people that are lazy slackers too. I bet more high paid people are slackers then the low paid guys are if you really look at it.
No one wants to work hard any more but they all expect to start at 60K. This country has gone soft man and it pisses me off.
