So I get this email today:
IMG_3016.png

Which is strange, because I never signed-up for this.

So I had to “unsubscribe” from this, which isn’t easy.
You can’t do it on the thermostat itself.
You can’t do it from the app.

I had to go to this website:
WHICH IVE NEVER BEEN TO BEFORE

Then I had to dick around to figure out what my login is FOR A FUCKING WEBSITE IVE NEVER BEEN TO BEFORE
(it uses your google login)

Then I had to dig deep into the site to find where the settings are to TURN THIS FUCKING FEATURE OFF THAT I NEVER TURNED ON IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Rant over.
If you have a Nest, you might want to make sure yours didn’t get activated like ours did (we have 3).

Did you get a utility incentive to install it? A lot of the utilities gave them and in the fine print they get to control them. Even in Texas

I didn’t.
On the opt-out page, it had a section for my utility info, and it was blank.

I would have very serious privacy concerns if they had that info

If my Nest adjusts the temperature on its own again....

It will be hammer time. I hate that fucker.

I walk down the hallway and remind it "don't do it or you die" and I know its listening.
I'm ready to hang a 2 lb hammer on the wall directly across from it as a subtle reminder.

I have a wifi t-stat that has never had the WiFi enabled... Largely because of this reason. This time it was google (which is bullshit enough), next time it will be hackers on the hottest/coldest day of the year.

Google has way overstepped with their “eco” settings on the nest. Their tie in to your giggle profile does also create concerns for me.

We do bundle in nest thermostats with the majority of our packages due to the fact the consumers largely request them.

Of you were to ask my opinion go with a Honeywell thermostat.

Google= data collection company
Honeywell=security company.

Google's core products have gone to absolute shit in the last 5 or so years.

They used to be cutting edge and rapidly developing the user interfaces and features, they have gone from stagnation to flat out regression. Gmail is getting worse and worse, their phone system and integration has lost all of the device sync features that used to make itt good. Photos, maps, etc etc.... It's all unwinding. You go to look for a feature you used to use and now, poof, it's gone.

Pretty sad really

Their "self learning" program is STOOPID! It doesn't work worth a shit!

I turned off ALL the auto settings in the Nest app. Fuck all that learning BS!

The location thing works great though. Turns everything off when we leave, and back on when we get home.

I'm not earning any leafs though...

😔😜

My buddy who is a A/C contractor who wired my Nest up disabled a bunch of those automatic features. He said their are a lot of them programed in them from the factory that you don't need or want.

The $75 Honeywell Wifi stat is the best. All the WiFi functionality, none of the stupid crap. If they are tracking you, they aren’t forcing and changes or options on you.

Honeywell Home Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat (RTH6580WF), Requires C Wire, Works with Alexa https://a.co/d/aKk8IFl

Use the Nest app to configure. Use the Google Home app for control.

Pretty awesome to be able to turn the HVAC on or off from any location with cell service.

Yep Google can seriously pound sand.

I think the nest is a solid thermostat if Google would just let it be a thermostat instead of a home Spy. I would apricate it more.
The wifi connection is solid ill give it that. It was installed when my entire HVAC system was replaced a couple years ago.

I don't own an Alexa or any kind of product like it so I'm just not used to being controlled or monitored.

What....shut up Siri I wasn't talking to you. Damn phone.

I like how the gub-mint can’t stop
fraud in

unemployment
welfare
medical
tax refunds
social security
and so on… Stealing our cash - fraudulently

But
they can put the STOP in heating or cooling your home that YOU actually pay to use….
