The way the new site is setup the "variable" width deal may not be possible.. So I might have to pick a size and go with it. Most web guys say that some size is "standard" because "most" people have small monitors etc..

I'm kinda thinking this is a boating site. Boaters historically have dispensable cash so their probably not sitting at home with some tiny ass monitor.. LOL

Still trying to see if we can make the variable width thing work.. but if we can't.. might have to make a choice on size.

Scrolling all over the place will be annoying...You gotta do what you gotta do but from a user perspective that will suck...

I would think the aspect ratio would be more of a concern than the size?

Most web guys say that some size is "standard"

With my god-like physique, 10-inches is standard. On a cold day. :skull

24" + 17" dual displays at work
17-inch laptop at home
12-inch laptop at home (please don't dumb-down the site to fit this little monitor)

At he moment it's a 32" lcd, I took the computer off of the 42" plasma monitor as the 32" is in the bedroom where I can lay my fat ass down in front of an A/C unit. :D

Half of you guys are friggin' hung. If there is such a thing as monitor envy, I think I just caught a case of it. Just bought the 19 in flattie, I can't really upgrade it for a while.

No shit.. LOL I'm a little taken back by some of the responses.. :D

I'm thinking I might start telling my web guys to stop thinking in terms of "pixels" and start thinking in terms of inches. LOL

to buy a computer monitor anymore is waaaay wrong. Monitor tv's are bigger, cheaper and hook right up HDMI or VGA, plus speakers built right in....

When we design a new site, we always have to design for the 1024 x 768 but taking into account scroll bars and tool bars that only leaves you with a live area of 1000 x 660.

I have a feeling that because the cost of monitors is coming down the live areas are going to increase but as of now, these are the sizes that we have to adhere to :grumble:

Site fits fine on mine with no scroll issues. I think it is running 1360x768 on a 32" LCD.

Maybe you should get this for your web design guys or guy.

WebDesignForDummies-2ndEdition_JPG.jpg

I did try and find one for yout Cart builder but they havent published that book yet. ;)

to be completely honest RD, havng to scroll side to side will be an absolute pain in the ass. I Used to visit a couple sites that were like that back in the day.....take note of the "USED TO" part. with all the effort you are putting into this place I wouldn be so accepting of something that would ulitmately take alot of your hard work and to put it in boating terms. "Kachina" up the site ;)

Maybe I'm way off base here, but if you have to scroll side to side...can't you just zoom out a little by holding Ctrl and scrolling your mouse wheel and make the page fit your screen???
