Man what a day. Such a good time. Windy as fuhhhhh but water was just right. Still was able to run the boat fairly hard and no issues. Just got off the water. Hung in the channel till dark and hit the turtle for dinner.

As a rule I never ever boat DS weekend. Got out early though and saw only one other boat on the way to the Springs.. just happened to be a giant ass DCB with a helicopter 15 feet above it... Even got my favorite spot..

Thanks to all for the many great photos. No Predator this year. End of an era. Per previous posts, it sounds like Gary Smith has moved on to other boating endeavors. He and his boats have been a major contributor to make DS what it is today. Through the years we got to see him run against some amazing boats such as Team CRC, Low Altitude etc etc. Closed cockpits against his open cockpit Predators. Back then they were already saying, ‘It’s Not a Race’. But . . . . . it WAS a race. Actually, at times, almost like a Frazier - Ali slugfest. Carried out year after year without an accident or injury. Then along came the green DCB incident and things changed in a big way. Saw the MCSD‘s Conquest on the highway yesterday. That boat must be approaching 25 yrs old and looked great. Time marches on.

Just saw the boat flip photo. Hope all are ok. Believe that is the first flip in a Shoot Out?

From this angle it looked like the pirouette bled off a ton of speed reducing the impact.

These guys are very very lucky.

Thank goodness that was an enclosed cockpit. That could have been absolutely horrific!
What's really crazy is that if you watch this closely, they never throttled down. Wide open the entire time! Theres about a 200' stretch before takeoff that you could see the deck raise and the speed jumped pretty significantly. CRAZY!!!
