We pretty much derailed the ‘where to launch for DS’ thread.. but I just wanted to give some credit where it’s very much due.

Long story short I overheated my boat during Desert Storm, and when I pulled the drain plug, it was pouring coolant out of the bilge.

Well, shit. 600SCI stage 2 with 511 hours (newer top end), guess its rebuild time!

My boat has really only ever been touched by Eliminator themselves and one other shop in Havasu since it was built in ‘09. I don’t have that relationship since I’ve only had the boat for a year, but the boat sure does. I called that shop and was told they’re booking in June currently.. pretty bad time to have an issue eh? ☹️

I had two buddies that reached out to Hamilton at So Cal, who pretty much said ‘just get it here’. I had it there at 8:30 the next morning. I was asking rebuild questions before we even knew what the issue was.. Hamilton told me to relax and let’s see what’s what first 😂

Compression test was good, no engine damage..

Cody dug into it and discovered it wasn’t drawing water, but the impeller was just fine. Dug deeper and found the water inlet through the bilge had a messed up gasket and was covered in silicone.. hmmmm!

Replaced it and went through some other things that just get old with being an ‘09 boat. Full service. New plugs. Fired her up and she was good to go. I grabbed her this morning, 24 hours after I dropped it off.

Hamilton kept me updated every step of the way with pictures, videos, and phone calls. Even sent me a picture of it tucked inside for the night.

They made me feel like my old 2009 hooptie was the most important boat they had in the shop.. really a great experience, and I’m a customer for life now for sure.

Thanks again Hamilton and Cody!!

I said on the other thread but I’ll say it again. Started going to Mario in early 2000’s after he left Teague. Followed him from simi, moorpark, castiac, etc. always always always took care of us. Proud to consider Mario a friend. Went over to the new shop and Hamilton gave me the full tour right before DS. Super happy for them. Great location, great shop, great people. 👍👍

Just happen to be representing today 😁

Glad you got your boat back on the water and dialed in quickly! 👍

If that's a whooptie then mines a stripped Yugo!

Great to hear of shops doing straight up honest work and happy that you are back on the water.

But where was the coolant coming from..?

Mario’s a good dude and happy to see him doing well.

So wait, no 540/PSI build?!
Wuss! 🤣

Glad you're up and running again. Save the engine damage until October (Then build the 540;))

I’d just keep the 600 and do a stage 4 on it. 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s the plan when it’s rebuild time, anyway. Lol

The question is did you get all the Australian Shepard dog hair out. Lol.
I didn't know you bought this boat.
Old owner is good guy, great pups

No dog hair, and no stripper pole unfortunately.

I don’t know Mike but I saw this boat around a ton. He took incredible care of this thing.

What he hell did he do with the stripper pole? Don't think it's on his new boat.

Good to hear it was a siimple fix. You sound like me. Something isnt right and start thinking of replacing the entire thing. Sounds like you got a new shop to service your boat. Im finally going to start sending my boat into service instead of me always doing it. Im taking my boat to Absolute hoping for great service like you.. I just want one shop that I can trust that doesnt give me the "I havent looked at it yet or hopefully next week" Always good to hear great reviews from service shops and socal is always gettiing mentioned on great service.

Wait a darn minute this boat had a stripper pole on it before and people know the previous owner and aren’t posting pics?

The stories I heard were probably 6th or 7th hand, but the rumor was there was some trouble as a result of the pole. So it may have been destroyed along with any photographic or video evidence.

Well, was it a divorce sale? I'm pretty sure my wife would have me strung up if I had some "single moms, trying to get by"

But I am kind of curious, was it like a flag mount deal? Or like the powered nav light with a switch on the helm?

Nah he traded it in towards a trifecta (I believe)

No no, it was a *LEGIT* stripper pole.

Was in storage unit last I saw it. Lol. I'll ask. It went through the hatch if I remember correctly. Sunscreen and metal poles make for slippery surfaces. Lol

That's a easy fix. Call Dana marine and order a 8' chrome ski pylon.

Hole saw and interior shop roll the fabric through the hole.

Mario and Hamilton take good care of us and these two rides. They even watch the house for us when we're not around.

Good to see you’re back up and running with nothing major. Look forward to seeing the boat on the water and having some beers this summer.

I dunno.. but I told the fiancé about it, and she’s like…. “Go fucking get it back”

😛😛

I remember seeing the video, but I can’t for the life of me remember where it was mounted on this thing..

There was a point where I questioned your reasoning for getting married again……. I now fully understand why!!!! Happy for you!!

@FlyByWire we’re all glad it worked out for the best! It’s always nice to help out a fellow boater. Especially in situations where there are so many unknowns about what’s going on with your boat. I’m stoked for you to get back out on the water! Mario and I appreciate all the kind words and comments about how your experience was. The SoCal family continues to grow!

Mario and Hamilton have treated me very well. I even had a timing issue and couldn't get to the shop before closing one time, so Hamilton brought it by the house.
One thing I can say for sure, if they take your boat in, It really is "the most important boat they have in the shop"!

When rebuild time comes, I don’t see any reason not to do the stage 4, which is right around 900.. 😬

But then will come the “what prop do I need” thread. 😂
What drive are you running? And what was your compression when they did the test? I’m curious since you said it’s got over 500 hours.

XR / Sportmaster lower

511 hours;

View attachment 1502627
Those middle holes getting a little low. I think all of mine are in the 120-140 range with 455 hours and stage 4s. Once they get below 100 they’re “dead”

If you go stage 4, I’d definitely go SCX on the drive especially being a single screw or just baby the hole shots and keep the revs under 6,000.

Hamilton walked me over to talk to Cody about the numbers (because I don’t know what they mean, I was asking more about the difference between the cylinders). He’d said that for a blower motor, the numbers are just fine.

But, I do know that with that many hours, it’s gonna be rebuild time sooner rather than later for sure.

I probably won’t go stage 4, as much as Id want to, because I don’t want to throw another 20k+ for the SCX. I don’t run hard on acceleration, but I also don’t want to keep breaking drives either 😂
