I'm not looking for it, But a Buddy had his 2018 Camaro ZL1 (18K Miles) grey, Stolen around Whittier Blvd and Hadley last night. His neighbors ring camera caught it, but didn't catch any usable details. The car was gone in around 2 mins.

This is more of a heads up Or secure your shit post.

Driving away didn't wake him up
He heard it start, and by then it was too late.
He knew right away it was his car, They lived there 3 weeks, someone scoped him out.

He grew up at the end of Painter, (Beverly Hills Dr) anyone that knows the area. He is just a mess right now, Him and my son grew up together.

Chopping off fingers would be putting it mildly how upset he is.

I think you mean Beverly Blvd., right? In uptown? Whittier HS area.

Hadley and Whittier Blvd has never been a great area.

I feel his pain. His alarm went off about as long as mine did.

I just left my house where my truck got stolen. Going over jobs with my Lead. Gates and fences at both properties on the top of the list.

Your truck being stolen was what prompted this, I couldn't find your thread. his video sounded like your description.
Money says his Camaro is in the middle of a street takeover on the rev limiter right now.

It's a shame It's a beautiful car, The kid had three payments left on it.

Yes, Painter to Beverly Blvd, East and yes Beverly turns into Turnbull, It once was one large private property, they sub divided it. The original house is still there. But its a gated community now

Since my truck was stolen. I have heard of 20 more. Spectrum installer Saturday said his buddies new 1500 got took never found. He saw a video of 60 of them in a lot in Dallas and thought he recognized his. They were all getting new vins.

A block from me another contractor plumbing van was stolen for the tools. 35k hit.
Saturday another guy I know got his window broke and majority of his mechanic tools stolen.

Few doors down from him a big job site got hit and they cut out all the copper.

My other 2500hd 2nd night at my new pad. They broke into my weatherguard box and got me. I had emptied all the power tools. 8 years no problems on that truck.

It's going rampant everywhere in Ca.

The wife has a Chevy SS, it lives in the garage behind a locked gate 90% of the time, but i've told her not to drive it until I get something beside the aftermarket tracker to disable the thing, It's insane any more.

This is a perfect use case for air tags. As soon as he knew it was his car, he could have started tracking it right away and been on the phone with the cops as he started to pursue it as well, assuming he had access to another vehicle.

Get them and hide them in your cars. They're cheap and they work.

Neighbor across the street his kid worked for orange county vehicle theft task force. They pulled the funding and shut it down.

The amount of vin swaps going down is crazy. My pos insurance company said they had 200 missing trucks in my area from this year. None recovered. The 3 they had recently recovered were stolen 3 years prior vin swapped. And when they went for smog check got discovered then recovered.

They use a GPS blocker. Neighbor next door to my job site had his taken 1 week after mine. Lojack and tracker. It showed it in a different place each time he checked and he drove to each spot and nothing. The next day lojack was blank. They did cut him a 10k check for not recovering it.

They used a wifi jammer on my cameras. Hardwiring this house. But also adding a front fence and gate.

Air tags don't use GPS. They use the cell network and bounce off of other phones in the area. There could be jammers/blockers out there for them, but I've never heard of any? It would basically mean that as the guy drives down the street, other cell phones around him wouldn't work until he was out of jamming range.

A member here at his bike stolen with a air tag on it. I drove to the location it was pinged at. And never found it.

Not saying to not use 1. But these thieves are ahead of the game. If they can block lojack that is 2k to install. A $20 air tag would be a easier defeat.

I would say air tag, lojack, a kill switch and ravelco will be on my new truck plus a boot when sitting behind my locked gate. With my German shepherd.

I think if the cops actually would do something would be a tremendous help. I never even got the follow up call from detective. I even text the detective sergeant when it happened.

I got more help from this forum and the neighbor on the auto theft task force that was recently shutdown.

Yeah, certainly not foolproof, but for $20, it's not a bad idea to have the extra possibility of being able to track it. Assuming a thief can't block it somehow, my thought is after driving with it for a while, they may get a notification that an air tag is traveling with them. At that point they'll either ditch the car (preferred) or start taking the car apart looking for it and risk getting caught in the meantime. I think most would probably go with the first option.

Best thing I've been able to think of is pull the fuel pump fuse and replace it with a blown one. Pain in the ass to do every time you park the car though. After they sit there and crank that thing for a while and it doesn't start, I'm not thinking they'll do much diagnostic work to identify it is the fuse, which one it is, and install a replacement. Better to move on to the next victim. Maybe do the same thing with the starter fuse too. Then they've got two problems to solve.

Maybe I underestimate these assholes, but it seems like they'd want to be on their way quickly.

I have not heard of any failed attempts lately. These fucks are good at what they do.
They would probably return with a repo undercover tow truck.
But Any additional thing is worth it. I didn't realize how easy it was for them. That tool they used on the camero can be bought for $600. Plugs in the ob2 port.

I know of 1 similar camero stolen from Torrance and they did find it stripped and burned 3 days later in Compton. Not much left. Owner had hardwired cameras and got it all on video. Of course he told me after mine was stolen. It was a few minutes from my house.

I feel bad for you, man. It's too bad the cops won't get off their ass and do something. As a former deputy, I'm ashamed of what the LASD has become. Of course, I'm sure their hands are tied by the stupid democrats that run this state. Glad I got out.

Things keep going like this and it's only a matter of time before people really start aggressively taking matters into their own hands.

I talked to the guy earlier that had his mechanic tools stolen. Pretty much put him out work for now. Young guy with a 3 year old kid just trying to survive. I been referring him work lately. Wish I was in a position to buy him all new tools. And let him work it off over next few years.

The other plumbing rig I talked to him at HD and been getting updates from his lady. They had to let one of there workers go as they can't afford to drop 35k right now to replace the tools. They need a vacation but feel they can't risk leaving there work trucks unattended.

I am fortunate I have several work rigs and lots of work lined up.

Stories like this young guy with 3 payments left are fucked up. I am still mad as hell at myself for not unloading my truck. But these guys are in a bad position.

No accountability if caught.
Newsom closing 5 prisons didn't help.
It'll only get worse, like once really nice Panorama City and Sepulveda areas of LA were.

That was me. And it was basically because the cops refused to intervene. They basically told me to f off when I was at the house with an active ping. Lol

My brother was saying another trick is steal it strip it and let it be found. Then when it goes to auction buy it back and reassemble it. Now you have a clean title.(salvage) but clean.
All of these stories, are depressing.
Hard working honest guys getting screwed over.

Shoulda brought a cap gun with you....when dispatch says they're not gonna do anything, say "fine, I'll handle it" and crack off a couple caps next to the phone before you hang up. I bet the cops will show up pretty quick.

Got way too much to lose to get in to that situation for a 2000$ E Bike.

The old days, I most certainly would have taken matters into my own hands.

What situation...it's a toy cap gun....just makes noise, but dispatch won't know that.

Having worked the mean streets of LA, most of Whittier is a "if you go looking for trouble" area. Residential break-ins, car theft/jacking happens everywhere!

Hope they find the kids car.
