'01 Mercruiser 496 Engine #?

Buddy is trying to register his '01 Lavey w/496 HO. Needs the engine # but the sticker is faded and illegible.

Where else can he find the #?

No, The Mercruiser serial number should start with a 0M number being an 2001 engine model should everything still be the same when sold new without aftermarket type replacements of the engine block…A total of 8 numbers one being a letter… Like these, https://www.mercruiserparts.com/496-mag-h-o-model

The ECM’s were not individually matched between engine and ECM serial number Wise.

If one ever received a readout from a past service then usually the serial number may have been inputed manually.

No, that was like 1978 when motors lasted more than 3 years. The serial number on a sorry excuse 496 will be on the plastic cover over the intake which did nothing besides add another one hour to your service bill.

Lol, yeppers, the serial number should be in both places if still visible.

The serial number decal is located on top of the engine.
The engine serial number is also stamped in the engine block.
