I have a 2015 powerstroke with 64,xxx miles on it and Check engine light came on, it has a problem with some heater/sensor for the DEF system and from what I’ve found it’s like $800 to fix it, of for around a grand I can delete and tune it, what’s your guys’s thoughts???...only worry I have is I tow a 19k lb fifth wheel from time to time, wondering how it will effect that

Delete it! Only regret will be why you didn't do it sooner. You don't have to run a "hotter" tune.

If you have the ability to delete it, do it. Pretty much assume any emissions gear (sans maybe a cat, yes i know...) is not doing you any real favors. I dont know what comes on those later model fords, but if you have the option i'd delete the DEF system, EGR, and PCV setups.

I have the same year truck with 34k miles and it is amazing to me how much we pay for these trucks and have these problems. My DEF pump went out at 30K and just two weeks ago the turbo was gone. Shout out to Bradley Chevrolet in Parker. Thank god I bought the GM extended warranty too. I don't think I would just delete it. The check engine light came on while driving to the river a couple of weeks ago and the truck drove fine. The day after in Parker, while getting the boat the light went off. I thought no biggie the truck runs fine, but I thought I should go get the code cleared and that is when they told me the turbo was toast.

Delete it. I put 30 miles on my truck before I deleted it (used truck). Just do the basics, dpf delete pipe and tuner/chip. I run H&S.
Buddy of mine ran 80k miles on his tuned 6.7 pulling goosenecks of hay regularly, he since sold the truck and it’s perfectly fine.

the sad part is how prevalent this shit is, and its not just the trucks. The cars have the exact same issues, i had a BMW 335d and had the DEF system replaced under warranty. It was $1800 in parts and labor to replace the 2 tanks ONLY. They didnt even replace the actual DPF or anything else in line. These engines also had HPFP issues, similar to the CP4 units. VW has had their fair share of dpf / HPFP issues as well.

I'd love to blame the HPFP issues on our shitty ULSD, but who really knows. i DO add a fuel treatment to my Duramax (LBZ), and run extra filtration.

Is that covered under a CA emissions warranty, they are really long on diesels. some of it is 80,000 miles and 7 years, I would check with dealer.

My DEF heater went out and thru a code on my 2016 6.7 around the 60k mark. Was covered under the emissions warranty.

I would not do it. Buddy of the guy that built my transmission got pulled over in Apline for a puff of smoke out the tailpipe. Truck got impounded for deleted smog equipment. $25k fine plus daily impound fees and the truck cannot leave the impound yard until the smog equipment is reinstalled, certified, and passes a test.

Nailed it! Take it back to the dealership, the should cover it. I am in your exact same shoes with my 13. Its got 260k on it and I dont know what to do. The DEF is not that big of a pain and I can fix it for $300 and my time but what if the filter takes a dive in the next few thousand miles. $300 for nothing. So far it runs fine, just the check engine light is on.

I guess the question is do you want more headaches or not. Every time I have modified a vehicle it caused more problems. But since you are already having problems it might make it even worse.

It amazes me how many guys rave about there diesel trucks but always have problems with them.

Show me where you can get a stock gasser with 475 HP, 1050 lb-ft of torque and a 100,000 mile warranty while getting over 18 mpg in the city? 🤷‍♂️

Oh I hear you and I get it. I just hear people having problems with turbos and trannies on trucks that are crazy money. My BIL had a Dodge Ram 3500 with nothing but problems from day one. But he loves the diesel so he got another one but its a ford F350.
