When is a Porsche not a Porsche?
When it's a RUF.

The original Yellowbird was the car I dreamed of owning.
As a kid, I would dream of the Yellowbird, I read and re-read magazine articles countless times.
When Road and Track said it laid rubber and got sideways down the entire quarter mile, I was hooked to the point of obsession.

And now, RUF has unveiled the 2017 CTR, a 100% bespoke car that they built in-house from the ground up.
The new Yellowbird.

I work in the auto industry, I see some pretty cool shit on a regular basis.
And I've had the pleasure of meeting, shooting the shit, with Alois Ruf on several occasions.

I've yet to see the new CTR in person, but just reading about this car car gives me goosebumps...and few cars ever give me goosebumps.

I would sell important bodyparts for this car.

Back in the 60's a few guys formed a club with a handful of 1930's BMW 328s, all painted yellow:). I was so jelaous of them at the time owning a Horex M/C only. The cars could be had for a song unrestored [ ca the equivalent of a few thousand ] in those days. Hemi power baby!

Here's what it looks like bmw328.jpg

When I was a very young kid, like 10 and under, it was a Porsche 959 on my ceiling above my bed, when I was 16 and had my own chevelle, I dreamed of simply putting a zl1 package aluminum 427 in it, now, as an adult, I am very sad to think that I will never have my 64 Aston Martin DB5 parked next to my 2012 ish Aston Martin DBS :grumble:

It was always a Porsche

In 1979 I worked at Chick Iverson Porsche / Audi / VW in Newport Beach and as a teenage kid was driving 930 turbos with plastic on the seats around the back bay - my first car was a 1963 Karmen Ghia. It was my first step towards my first Porsche

I'm a big fan of Ruf products!

It was the Porsche 964. One passed by me at the school bus stop almost daily when I was a kid. I was in amazement every time.

That Ruf is nuts. Amazing.

Here is mine

Jesus that RUF is F'ing bad ass.

A 997 GT3 RS was the car that I wanted, but I'm a few years too late to buy one as the prices have gone back up. I also wanted to build a "clubsport" style C6 Z06 or pick up a late model Viper TA to mess around with. Both of those are something I could actually afford. I'm less interested in them now that my Rx7 is getting pretty fast though.

As a kid a vector. As an adult, Chrysler me412

We did some dyno work for them (Vector) way back. That was a very intriguing car for its time.

The 'ring video of the original Yellowbird is one of the best.

Interesting, both basically unobtainable for different reasons (a handful produced/one-off concept car).

I see a pattern...
Chrysler could still do the me-412. Although, the engine might have to be rethought. Ludicrous actually owns one of the 3 or 4 cars made.

The vector could have been bad ass. Never found our what actually happened with it.

How was it's performance on the dyno?

They made about 50 cars from the W2 and W8, and don't know what happened to them after that. They were local here somewhere in the South Bay, I forget where.

I never saw my dream car in my early teenage years. Back in the early 80's I wanted a muscle car that could handle with Europe's best but crush them in a straight line speed contest which was the norm back then anyway.
Hot Rod, Car Craft and others rags were on my reading list in HS so Callaway's creations were my inspiration. Take something cool and make it bad ass.

Callaway had earlier versions that hit 200 MPH in the early 80's.

This "model" however was a monster then, and still a monster in the realm of money is no object fastest car wins today.

My dream car was and still is a 71 Camaro with a mini tub, IRS, BBS mesh wheels, huge brakes and huger engine with a 6 speed manual transmission. Set up for road courses, but brutal acceleration on the straights.
