How 'bout if I say a computer for a boat???? JK. So are the II Quad-Core Processors any good? Should I only go with "Intel Pentium....."? Its past time for a new computer so a purchase must be made however cost is a giant factor.

The Macs are so easy to use. Kinda different at first, but once you get figured out you will throw a pc in the lake.

Stick with Intel vs AMD.

Multicore in general is good, but performance doesn't allows follow core count density or speed.

Generally the more cores the faster and better, but not always.

Not everything runs better with more and faster cores.

Much of the software available is NOT architected to take advantage of the cores. Software has to be optimized to do this.

Depending on what you use the computer for - the video card or GPU is as important as the processors themselves. The plug in video card has as much or more computing power than the computer cores.

Well, perhaps. I'm unfamiliar with the Quad Core stuff but its about all I saw in the ad at Best Buy. I know Intel has always been good. Suprised that the selection was small.

For Laptops, this re-furb @ costco.com is tough to beat performance, and features/ $$$

I recomend Costo. They carry HP. I used to build my own puters from scratch, but it's hardly worth doin that anymore!

They always have the lastest offerings from HP at Costo, great prices, and great return policies.

They almost always have one guy there that knows that department very well. Find that guy and your good.

Intel hasn't always been good. The only good thing about the early pentium 4 was that Intel sold a zillion of them. When Intel went back to a Pentium 3 based design (the Core 2), things got a whole lot better.

AMD hassn't always been good, either.

At this point, however, you could buy any currently shipping processor from Intel or AMD and it would be excellent for the uses of just about anybody.

I'm really fussy about components. Like this fucking Logitech keybooard that keeps stuttering charracters. This is whatt the ttexxt coming from this keyboarrd is llike when I don't go back and delette all tthe dupllicattes.
