Any Bass Dorks Around Here?

Love fishing the Colorado River for bass, very rewarding to catch 'em there as opposed to the So Cal lakes that are stocked with trout.
I used to fish out of Fishers Landing in Yuma years ago, super fun & challenging.
The Parker strip can be fun in the spring before it gets too crowded, Walters Camp area is also fun to explore.
This year i hope to try the area up river from Blythe . . . hope it opens up by spring.
Any Bass-Geeks ever post on here?

There was a tournament that was supposed to run wed -friday but I believe they got blown off the water on thursday so they only fished wednesday and friday.
I believe there is another one next weekend held by western outdoor news.
Havasu has done an amazing job with their fishery management. There is a TON of artificial reefs and fish habitat that has been put in over the last decade.
I'm sure if you were to go down to one of the local tackle stores and ask the guys in there for a simple 'beginners kit' they would be more than happy to help out.
The good thing about havasu is there are bass EVERYWHERE in the lake now, so you don't have to be a 'pro' to have some success.

Sunday when I was out there were fishing boats everywhere so I ask when I got back to the ramp. One guy said they were practicing for the Tournament this Wed. Man those boats haul ass.

BIG tourney last week that got blown out. My brother was one of the few representing California. Total bust but got home to fresno at 1 am Saturday, left for Don Pedro at 3 and won a 70 boat tourney there to redeem himself. Not sure how he’s still not sleeping all that off.

Haul the mail! Brothers got a new Phoenix with only a 225 4 stroke. Unbelievable power. Similar differences riding a 2 stroke bike switching to a thumper. And superior handling boats. My brothers and I are 3rd gen tournament bass anglers

The lake I live on is full of bass and huge crappie, but the problem is, I can't catch a bass for the life of me! Similar to those above, I grew up bait fishing, trout, catfish, etc. I know my way around a fishing pole and tackle box, but for some reason no matter what I try, bass just elude me....SMH

Blind casting from the shore, trying different lures, different locations, even trying lures and spots recommended to me by guys that slay bass, and still have yet to catch one...I will say though that it keeps my beer drinking to a minimum...LOL.

The other day I was there with my $$ Shimano setup, not catching a thing, along comes this kid with a spiderman pole, a mealworm and a bobber, caught himself a nice little bass within a few minutes. I wanted to throw my setup in the lake and never try again. lol

Maybe I will stick to trout fishing, I can catch those.

Large are always pissed off. Post spawn should be ok. Troll for trout while paddling. Check you tube there are guys with area/ time of year tutorial vids. Sounds like a great trip.

We have had some pretty good luck catching catfish on good ol stinky hot dogs.

Me and my cousin took the ass tracker to silverwood to troll for stripers..only got one then did some bass fishing. Silverwood is a tough lake so far. Got some deep divers to try this Thursday[emoji106]

I've fished Silverwood a few times, but never had a lot of success. I was told the areas between the narrows in the middle of the lake were productive, but I never caught any fish there. Also heard the best time was right when they stocked the lake, but again, I don't have any proof to back that up either. Glad you guys caught a fish though!

It's probably been 15-18 years since I was up at Silverwood. Man time flies!! That's about about the time I stopped fishing for trout and moved back to fishing saltwater. I'll take one calico bass over five trout, ANY day!

How do you cook bass?

Filet & cut out the ribs.
Roll the filet in some flour that has a some lemon pepper in it.
Then pass the filet through some well whipped egg or egg-white.
Take out the filet and roll it around in some Progresso plain bread crumbs till it's coated.
Heat up some olive oil in a skillet on medium low heat till it just starts to 'fume' a little and place the breaded filet in there.
Just a couple minutes on each side when it gets a nice golden brown.
If you like, add a little squeeze of lemon juice once it's on the plate.

(I used to chop a few green onions & add to the olive oil . . . but I haven't done that in a while)

FWIW - I do this with Rock Cod, Calico Bass , and Striped Bass . . . super mild, and not 'fishy'.

To be honest, I've never ate a Largemouth Bass , or a Smallmouth.
I've heard the smallmouth are tasty and pretty 'sweet', where as the largemouth are more 'fishy'.
The Stripers I've caught out of Mojave & Havasu are probably the best I've eaten.
