Any recommendations on Portable Jump Starters?

My portable jump starter has given up the ghost. It served me well for 13 years. However it was heavy, and needed to be charged more and more often.

Any advice on current models? I’d like to use it in both my vehicle and boat.

My last portable also had a tire inflator. But it took forever.

I care about quality over price.

Thank you in advance!

I think the battery powered small ones are where is at these days…just don’t store them in a hot car.
The ones I have can’t jump anything. Seems I try with the portable and then end up grabbing some jumper cables anyway. I’ve had to do it twice in the last couple weeks for family. Cars these days take too much power to turn over.

If you have DeWalt tools, they make a pretty decent jump box with tire pump. It's a 20v, and the pump sucks. Works good on weak batteries or small systems.

The one I've had best luck with though was a "Powerall". Little red lithium box, has 2 USB charge ports, but can plug jumpers into it on the end. It will start a Cummins or a Powerstroke on a half charge. Wife keeps it in her door panel, but we take it in the boat or such too. It's about 5yrs old, and holds a charge for weeks.

If the battery is at 8-10 volts, it’s seems like they give enough juice work. If the battery is cooked, get the jumper cables for sure.

DSR is the only way. This bitchll jump start a diesel with no batteries. The lithiums are cool and lightweight but the first time you put a heavy load on them you fry the battery pack. This also doesnt have that stupid battery sensing safety bullshit, just a good old fashion on off switch. It has a small inverter and phone charging station on the back.

I’ve had 3 NOCOs and a jump-n-carry 1700. They were all great. The NOCO did expand and bust the case eventually but I kept it in the boat and in the garage in Parker. I shouldn’t have done that

I’m beginning to not like lithiums lately. I think if I had the room and in a boat I might go back to an AGM jumper like some of those from Schumacher like the DSR 115. Bigger is better especially if you have to keep cranking due to other engine issues…flooded etc.

Honestly one of fringe benefits of the jumpers is to be able to help some one else who asks for a jump and not having to use your vehicle to help them.

Get a good jump box and then get a separate cordless inflator. Whatever cordless tools you have at home get one of those. I’ve got Makita and I picked up an inflator for $75 - I’ve got plenty of batteries. The only problem with the Makita is that it doesn’t have a lock to keep the pump going. I just jam my keyless fob in there to keep the trigger on.

I have NOCO in all my trucks, boat and S X S. PLUS I had them in my fire trucks including an old military duce and a half 24V. The NOCO's have gotten me and my fire equipment out of some bad spots. I'd never go with another brand.

I bought one at Walmart recently that’s very small that plugs into a usb por to recharge. It’s the V6 model.

Used it one time starting a dead battery in my Hemi truck, and it worked good. 😉

I just got an AutoZone email ad: "3 Day NOCO event is here!" It looks like they put their jumpers on sale this weekend.

Noco for the win.

I know a couple slouches who might leave batteries on over the weekend and need big trucks jumped on Monday morning. Mechanics show up with a noco to keep the stars aligned

I got one recommended by RDers and it started my diesel with ease a few times when I needed batteries before having to recharge it. Will get you the name when I have a few minutes. NOCO....

I remember when my diesel died. Hooked a 4Runner with cables to one battery and my plug in jumper to the other.

We use the NOCOs at work. They seem to do well most of the time.
