I don't know why, but I kind of want to build one.

Not a racer, but a cruiser, I'm thinking something like 393 or 408 ford. :champagne:

I've got about 15k, that is just screaming new boat.

Thats exactly the boat I'm thinking of.

Just wondering what kind of boat would be legal?

Im sure some of the cracker box racers on rdp could point you in the right direction for a set of plans for a race legal boat. I put together a materials list for a Tornado a while back- the materials aren't something you can get at Lowes, a specialty lumber yard was needed and it added up fast

Are you thinking wood or glass hull?

Rebuilt or start from scratch?

wood from scratch.

Right on. There has been a good amount of guys that have built wood crackers. Patterson's and the Doidges to name a few. The Patterson crackerbox design are by far the best built crackers out there. The Doidge crackers I believe are build using the same templates. Their boats fly as well. If you could find templates or plans for a Patterson cracker, that is your best bet.

If it is just going to be a nice river boat, there are a good amount of Glenn-L crackers that looks great.

Honestly, I will PM you Bob Patterson's #. If you are serious about building a wood cracker, give him a call. Bob and his brother are the most knowledgeable guys I know when it comes to crackerboxs. After all, they started the whole deal. :thumbsup

I don't think so chief. ;)

Dominic Cotroni started it all back in 1936.

True That. Dominic was the creator of a crackerbox (or so I heard)

Although I do not think crackerboxs really took off racing until the late 40's

That trailer looks like it's built of 2x6's and the axle looks balanced directly under the engine.

Andrew, you forgot to include photos of the additional chambers that are built into the seat to house the balls it takes to race a crackerbox. I haven't actually read the rule book but I'm pretty sure that's one of the requirements to make a boat race worthy
