I was selling my '09 CLS550 so I it in storage for about a month, went to get something out of storage and found the back end of the car sagging, did my research and it ended up either being a air line or a shock bladder with a slow leak that had been there for a long time according to the dealer but if driven here and there we would have never known it was there because it would fill up and leak out in a few weeks or more. I will never sell anything that has an issue or without disclosing it...I hate having issues either way so I wanted it fixed completely. I did a lot of research and instead of changing all 4 corners including the valves with factory shocks, valves, any line issue etc etc etc I decided to try another route. (I hate doing piece meal work if it needs it get it ALL DONE at once). So instead of spending 5-8k at the dealer and not having a guarantee other parts of the system would not go out soon and after research I found a lot of owners from RRovers to Benz, to anything with air ride systems that had the same air ride issues converted to Strutmasters or other brands of complete replacement systems and most all seemed to be very happy with the outcome especially without having to ever deal with all the 10-15k worth of air ride components ever again. I ordered the whole suspension package and am having it installed tomorrow. Anyone have any experience with Strutmasters?

Have had a few CLS’s.

If you have a saggy rear, it more than likely is the airmatic system that is leaking and ultimately will fail. Sometimes at the most inopportune time from what I have read in the past when I was researching this.

There are airmatic shocks made by Arnott that are WAY less than OEM and work and are manufactured even better than OEM. I’ve heard mostly good stuff about these and actually had both ends replaced with these (about 7-8 years ago) on one of my CLS’s..

Check that option out. Or... trade it on for the new AMG GT4 63S. You won’t be disappointed!!!

All that aside, miss your posts on the $$ threads. :D

And to the thread, Navigator had that auto air suspension crap. Bye Bye air ride crap. I couldn't tell the difference.;)

In particular I don't recall. There are certain names here that I like reading their advice. Honestly I can't remember millions of posts and perhaps I'm confusing you with someone else. Maybe in the way back machine before here. Somehow I remember some solid posts.

Had sagging in my navigator from a worn bag and originally thought about converting to springs. Was able to find some replacement bags on eBay and they’ve been great ever since. Although now the bags are good I think I have a leaky oring or line somewhere. As cool as the air ride is, it’s kinda a pain. Just get it fixed ASAP before you need a compressor too. Everyone in my navi FB groups switch to SM swap kits and can’t rave enough about how great they are and how much air sucks. Heh. Good luck!!

Could anyone imagine flying on a Commercial airliner where they used "Air" for everything Hydraulic?

I had the saggy rear then the front drivers corner went as well. I checked into the Arnott, but it kept bothering me about spending 900-1000 for the front two and another 800 for the rear and then possibly having the distribution valve, air lines, pump and leveling modules go out one after another so I went with the full replacement eliminating all the future headache from the air ride system. One other forum poster said they wished they did it sooner but also said it converts the ride to replicate sport mode vs comfort. I was not able to do the swap myself due to time limitations and available space so I dropped it off last night and will be picking it up on tomorrow so I guess I will have to wait and see if I like it or not. Thanks for the input.

OK, $1800.00 later I got the Benz back and I love the way it drives and handles...The shop did a great job with the complete replacement of the crappy Benz air suspension system made out of all plastic hoses and weak rubber boots. All new Strutmaster Shocks and Springs all way around, deleting all the trouble of the air system now and in the future. I Took it for a test ride for a hour or so in the city, freeway and a few high speed runs at triple digits and it handled as good if not better than stock. Anyone thinking of getting rid of their air ride it is WORTH THE MONEY...

Good to hear. If I had known about this way back then, and heard your input, I probably would’ve gone the same way you just did. Glad it worked out great.
