Any VPN will be slower than your regular connection.

Are you just tossing the idea around? What is that you're looking for, privacy/security? or anonymity?

The big deal with VPN's in the privacy/anonymity sphere is whether or not the company you use for VPN services will turn over their log records to LEO.

For anonymity, TOR is still king and is easily ran by using Tails, a "Live CD" that you burn and boot into. But, it's slow, scripts are diabled and Google will not work..making for an unpleasant Internet session. But if you are going on the Darknet to buy some speed, then it works great, lol.

EPIC Privacy Browser is a cool, free tool that also has a built-in "proxy" buttton that disguises/hides your real IP address. It's a privacy enhanced version of Chrome.

I use BOLEH VPN whenever the need arises, but not often. Gmail, Facebook, banking and most other important sites are all https/ssl/encrypted connections, so using a VPN is somewhat null unless your goal is to avoid your ISP from knowing which sites you are visiting. Your ISP sees you connecting to the VPN, but then nothing else. A VPN is a tunnel from here...to there.

That's different, but yes, it makes sense, if the ISP is throttling Netflix, then using a VPN's servers would seem like a good solution.

BUT, making sure you have the available bandwidth would be the first step, especially if your house has multiple devices connecting to your router.

Also, make sure you can choose the servers to use - you want one with the ability to use a United States connection.

If not, services like iCloud, your bank, and Google/gmail will see a foreign country IP and mist likely, block you, plus you have distance latency. Being able to choose a West Coast server is a plus.

Google/iCloud/bank servers also use deep packet inspection, just like the ISP does to detect the Netflix packets. A downside to a VPN might be having to re-log your devices in (constantly) since the VPN will most likely ne spitting out different IP addresses; and the above-services will see the access from different IP addresses as hacking attempts (the messages from gmail and iCloud which say "your last login was from San Diego etc, if you ever see Russia, your ass is pwned! [owned])

What is your download speed? You should be at a minimum of 20MB for a household of connected devices.

Give it a whirl, it won't hurt, just make sure there are no contracts.
