Anyone with a lifted truck and a drop hitch running a licence plate mounted camera? Right now I have it drilled into the plate and I can't see my hitch ball It's kind of annoying. I also can't see shit at night, so I was thinking of getting the one with LEDs.

Hate to take off the IMCO billet plate though....:grumble:

You could see a lot better if you put the DPF back on your truck.

No but these were.

I've been reminded of this at the river and at Glamis several times. :D

Use shims or wedges to angle the camera and/or plate downward a little. Some slim LED lights under the bumper would probably help the night vision.:thumbsup

I have the cam/plate cover you have pictured. It has allens to adjust the cam/LED's down and yep you can set it to just catch the top of the trailer hitch ball, easy money...

Might as well use a couple hand fulls of these while you're at it

The other problem you will have is the license plate lights wash out the night vision.

I have. I even went a step further and mounted it in a Rex Marine Stringer washer and sanded as much angle as could to the back to help point it down. Still no luck.

I installed hidden flood lights under the bumper, they help but are overkill.

Cool!

You need a different camera. One like this that mounts different. I had a Pioneer on my last two lifted trucks and it angled down far enough to work. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1343951714.576633.jpg

I have one.
I can see my hitch ball just fine, but judging depth is difficult because it's a straight-on shot.
So basically, I can back up and align it perfectly, but I still need to hop out of the truck so I can tell when the ball is centered under the receiver.

I'm not sure which camera Dallas @ Al & Eds installed, but it works great, even in low light, and license plate lights don't seem to affect it at all.
But it's different from what you posted. The camera isn't part of the plate frame. It's a separate camera and its mounted on the plate itself. I'll try to get a pic later.

Did you remove it from the housing or did you mount that entire thing to the truck?

I mounted it to the center of the lic plate, where yours is now, but you can angle it almost 90 degrees down.

I have this one and it is so clean and works perfect with my rapid 6" hitch.

Without. I have had mine for a while and I dont think it was out yet. I still dont think I would want it.

Yea I don't think I would either. I'm thinking this might be worth the extra 90 bucks. The other one posted was cool, however I always worry when buying electronics from Ebay.

Believe it or not, this 17 dollar one works great for trailer hook up , shows the ball on a drop hitch , works pretty good in low light and mounts on the plate frame.

Thanks.

I saw one mounted like pronstar's today on a lifted Excursion in Sunset Beach. Hmm btw, maybe a member?... It was black, had a DCB and Teague sticker on the rear window:D

Anyways I like that one but I just worry about it getting kicked and breaking. I also don't want to drill holes in anything. I'd have to see a picture to believe it. lol

I like the lic plate version but just not believing the angle will work with a flat rapid hitch. I'm going to order the tail gate handle deal. It looks factory and the pictures look great. Now I need to decide if I should buy the $100 ebay deal or the $200 one. :headscratch:
