We will be in Havasu next Wednesday through the following Tuesday and it looks like the weather is going to be HOT!!

I have my normal spots that I like to frequent, but they get a lot of sun. I am looking for a couple good spots that have some shade so that we can try and keep everyone as cool as possible. I am kinda worried about the new baby. All our other kids were older when they first came on the boat.

Would Steamboat be a good place to go?

Throw an ez up in the boat, and find a nice beach. Bring your shade with you.

I have an EZ up in the boat, but can't keep it near the shore because we put the babies pack & play under it. Was hoping to have some shade for the kids when they are playing in the sand on the shore.

Steamboat in the back either to the left or right has some trees and a bit of shade. Or else up in the gorge but the water is cold up that way. Kids don't seem to care but I prefer the warmer lake water.

The channel has a lot trees on the Island side where you can get out of the hot afternoon sun. During the week the channel is great with not that many people.

Natural shade is usually 10 degrees cooler than a canopy.

There is a nice cove just south of Cat tail cove that has a nice beach with natural shade and a bathroom.

This makes me feel a little better.....

Generally, rattlesnakes emerge from hibernation in March or April, or when the average daytime temperatures reach and remain about 60F and higher. The snakes are then most active when the temperatures are between 80-90F. This means that the snakes may be active most of the day during the spring, and during the early mornings and late afternoons throughout the summer. Exposure to temperatures above 110F for more than a few minutes is enough to kill a rattlesnake; therefore, during the hottest part of summer, snakes are seldom observed, except occasionally at night. Snake activity picks up again as temperatures begin to fall in late summer and early autumn before they go into hibernation as early as September or as late as December.

Yeah we've seen snakes during spring break into Mother's Day but usually not after it gets into the 100's

You will not see any snakes this weekend during daytime hours. 110 temps will kill them in about 5-10 minutes.

I'm cracking up over the question, shaded beaches in Havasu? You are lucky to find one with much of any shade. Your best bet is finding a beach that faces east/northeast.
Middle of the day its slim pickins, latter afternoons use above suggestion.
Have fun and keep redoing sunscreen on the little ones.......and yourselves.

I was kinda thinking the same thing.

Desert and shade. Is kind of a oxymoron [emoji2]

Based on what Ive seen, if your ez-up gets ruined by wind damage you can just leave it on the beach next to the baby diapers.

That shit was everywhere on the lake yesterday. If not on the surface it was suspended.

Yep, I did see a little on the lake after spending the day in the clean cool gorge.:p

Seeing its in Mead and Mohave it skipped the gorge? :D When we were up there during DS it was there too. The 'back lake' in devils elbow we spear fish in usually has 25' visibility and you couldn't see your feet when we were there. I don't know what you guys are smoking that you think the water is clear.

I don't really know what's going on, I'm not sure anyone does. While the river doesn't look like it did in the 70's and 80's I'm not seeing a drastic difference in the gorge vs. the last 5 years or so. I spent a little time yesterday at the entrance of Devils Elbow standing in 4' of water looking at my feet, quite clear at that sandbar on the East side. I know that some of the back areas still have mud and clay from storms 2 years ago. The river is ever changing, hopefully it gets better.

The drive wake behind most boats was more foamy than what I normally see here.
Lime green stuff floating in patches between Thompson and Copper. Most was suspended in the water all around with quiet coves having some floating.
Dont let anyone splash you in tha face with it is my suggestion[emoji3]

Late in the day you can find shade on the cali side coves or if we are sunned out we sometimes hit the springs for an early dinner then run back just after the sun goes behind the mountains. Makes a nice evening ride

I know of a good spot on the Cali side that is shaded in the afternoon. There is shade everywhere on that lake, just need to know where the good spots are that have a beach and some shade.

Just bought a $20 microfiber cooling towel for the new baby. They said that you get it wet and the towel will stay cool for hours.......some kind of cooling technology or something. I feel a little better now, but crap......it looks like it is going to be HOT!!

If I had a baby I'd put my rv (or rent one) on the A row at Black Meadow. 20 feet from your boat and water and great skiing. RV for cool down, water close...done.
