Changing to a 90hp Mercury

So we bought a second boat. It’s a pontoon with a carbed 90hp Johnson. I was thinking about getting a mercury 90hp efi to install on it. I’m new to outboards so what all would have to be changed as far as controls and cables. Thanks in advance.

Johnsons use pushing throttle, so you need to change to pulling for the Mercury. That can be done most aftermarket throttle handles.

Some cable colors are different, but there are conversion charts.

If you want modern CAN-based SmartCraft gauges, assuming that a new 90 hp engine supports them, you will need to replace the gauges.
