It's about that time of year again and I'd like to try something new. Maybe it's the Clark Griswald in me. :D

Has anyone here gone to a tree farm and cut down their own tree? Is it worth it? Where would you suggest going?

I read that Richfeild Pines in Yorba Linda doesn't allow customers to cut the trees down themselves. Would anyone happen to know if that is true?

Why not pick out a tree at a tree farm and let them cut it for you??

Being doing this in the national forest in Colorado for years. $5 tag. Cut yourself. We get great trees every year. We usually top a tree to get a good one. Remeber to climb up to the tree you want in the snow. Then drag it down. Not the other way around. Lol

Who'd want a fake tree?:D Then there's no fun of kneeling/laying down in the snow and mud to cut it down or dragging it through said snow and mud. Don't forget the hours spent setting it up or dealing with cleaning up the needles that get everywhere even if you keep it watered or the joy having the house smelling like a cheap car air freshener. After the holiday is over you get to figure out how to get a 12 foot high, eight foot wide tree (because we just NEED a tree that big that no one but the two of us will see) that went into the house easily when it was fresh and wrapped up, out of the house now that its been slowly wilting over the past month-think Sawzall...only to keep finding needles hiding in the house until June. But it keeps the wifey happy!

We do it each year Permits are sold through Big 5 sproting stores and go fast, they went on sale 2 weekends ago. I think Coconino may have some at the ranger stations. we go to tonto or stitgraves to cut.

If you call the usfs or big 5 expect a cluster F of info :rolleyes

When we lived in San Diego, we went to a tree farm every year in Ramona and cut down our tree. They smell so much better and last so much longer when they are that fresh.

Last year, which was our first year in AZ, we bought a tree at Fry's, and it was dead within a week. :(

I would love to find someplace close by to cut our own down this year.

Shoot, maybe we'll just decorate a palm tree..... :D

I was in Denver last week and I saw some wholesale lots piled high with wrapped trees waiting to be shipped - it seemed a little early to me to have them last through x-mad???

We went to a tree farm and got a fresh cut tree for years, but now there are very few in this area. Last year we got a couple trees from Costco and they were great. They lasted well through Christmas, typically take them down after New Years. Going Costco again this year. They are trimmed up, good size and fresh.

Do you live in az? It's easy, go to any tonto ranger station and get a permit. Some zones you can buy the permit at various sporting good stores.

I'm glad I read. It's stupid that they are doing that when the sitgraves you can buy at big 5. Sometimes this state is so stupid

Every year it's a cluster F of inconsistent information and if you call big five for information you might as well just stick a pencil in your eye to ease the pain. Hey what's common theme the governments in charge of this
