Hate to say it but I stopped watching that show a few seasons ago. I actually thought I read that it was coming to an end. I used to be pretty pumped to watch it but it seems like it lost its edge awhile ago. Maybe I need to check it out soon

I saw this thread and watched about 1/2 of the new show before I lost interest....nothing but clips from years past.

Discovery has lost their game.

I think you may have been watching their pre season BS show. The first actual show of the season that was on tonight was all new of the ‘17 king crab season. It was a decent... ramping up for what will be a good season... if you enjoy the show. If you don’t really like it, there won’t be any new draw to pull people back in. Same crews, same show of guys catching crab.

I haven't watched it in a few seasons. I enjoyed most of this new season opener. Pretty much same old stuff.

We haven't watched it for awhile. We did see the previews and thought about watching it but didn't.

Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand had that feud with the shows producers that ya wonder if they ever settled it, then the loss of Phil.
The show earned 10's of millions of $$ and the Hilstrands had a legit gripe of how little they got paid, including low pay for a spin off they did "Hillstranded".

Met Russel Newbury at the boat show a few seasons back.
No sign of him anymore.
Damn that's a tough job and a tough business.

Isn't somebody on the boards here a Bering sea crab fisherman?
I chat with poncho quite regularly. He said it's been a great season.

Satellite Wi-Fi and facedork messenger works pretty bitchen to keep in touch.

Yes, watched it but started to dose off near the end. I was tired before I started watching.
Not a bad episode from what I remember.

Curious how much $$ Captains and the crew members receive for doing the show? Is it set amount $ per crew member or based on film/screen time? I'm assuming they get residual $ from repeats too?

I could only find estimates of standard talent fees to the shows caltains of between $25K -$50k per episode.
I know on Gold Rush I read that the Hoffman’s got $30K per episode (as I recall?) and dispersed that to the crew at their own discretion.
I would assume it’s similar?

I did read that Sig is reportedly getting $50K per, that would translate to over half a mill over a season.
Again, one would assume the crew gets some of it?

I don't know.. Sigs boat and reputation. Nobody watches the show to see the crew..

Thanks WTG. That's a good bit of $$ for getting filmed just doing your job. Sig does seem to be the shows and viewers favorite. Good to see someone who just takes care of business and doesn't do all the dumb stuff to get camera time, become most popular. I read the Northwestern has never has never had a serious accident/injury.
About 5-6 years ago, TV industry came calling on California High Voltage Power Line Industry to do a realty show similar to Axemen. NECA/IBEW Union Line contractors not only said no, but Hell no! Preferring to fly under the radar, didn't want to share how we do things and feared OSHA/Utilities would see guys start doing dumb shit for cameras and ratings. A non-union Lineman Training school filmed a show called Woodwalkers. It follows various students thru 15 weeks of training, but is mostly a propaganda show for school enrollment and hardly shows any real line work.
