Hello all;

I'm looking for a scan tool for my 6.7 Cummins. Its a detuned version of the unit in the Ram but is strictly Cummins - it doesn't have the Ram parts in the middle. Its technically in my RV on a Freightliner M2.
I am having emissions problems showing up already with only 20k miles...... I need to be able to read codes and delete / reset flags. I almost got stuck in limp mode in the middle of Nevada a few weeks ago. Three times..... being able to reset this would allow me to limp home or to a real shop at least. I don't want to deal with a tow for something like that in the middle of nowhere.

I'm kicking around this: https://www.bluefire-llc.com/store

Thoughts?

I use a OBD2 scanner on my Dodge diesel. A buddy just had problems last week with his Mercedes Sprinter and the scan tool worked just fine. Code came up and diagnosed the problem. Particulate filter in the exhaust system. I figured it was out of date DEF fluid.

I assume its a J1939 9 pin diag port (or maybe 6 pin J1708?) and not OBD2 seeing as its a MDT?

If so, the Scangauge D can do some code reading/code clearing as well. I have one on my super C on an IH chassis and it works pretty good. I looked at bluefire and others, but Im fairly happy with the Scangauge.

I also read a lot of good info on the bluefire one you are looking at, seems like it would be a great choice as well.

Another very good tool is the Autel CV series...it will do almost everything the factory software will. Not a cheap tool, but very handy for Freightliner and Izusu stuff, also does decent on CAT and a few others.

I just put on a Scan Gage. does a lot more than read codes.
some of the people on the Jayco Seneca web site like the Blue fire better.
go to that web site, there's a lot of info there for the M2.

I'm located up near Sacramento.

the Seneca website is where the recommendation for the bluefire came from. It appears I am not alone in having issues with the emissions systems on these. It looks like the commercial trucks have the same issues as the light duty trucks.

I need to be able to blank the codes and avoid limp mode. its not about not getting the issue fixed, its about being stranded somewhere like in the middle of Nevada where the closest repair facility is 150 miles away and I'm on the side of the road. I was seriously concerned about this as I was having issues come and go as I crossed 80 a few weeks ago. This was a bogus DEF code that had no impact on the vehicle running, just the computers interpretation of what should be injected. Getting this beast towed to somewhere is no joke......

I just had the def valve and the filter replaced on my 2016 Seneca TS. first def related problem I've had but only 20000 miles. It had a yellow check engine light and didn't go into limp mode. The dash said no active codes so I got the Scan Gage and it picked up the code.

I haven't gotten to mess with the coaches, only the commercials. On the coaches, are the decomp chamber and muffler in a straight line? On the trucks, they stack them under the passenger doors, and the DEF tank and injection pump is on the driver's side. I really like the motors,and the transmission setups, they're really stout. The DEF systems are actually pretty decent, only really had a couple "non-idiot" problems. (Had one with gas, and one with water...gas in the DEF on those will set you back almost 10k!) There is an "after treatment" Pyro and sensor, and those can give hiccups. They really don't like sub 25 Temps either, the DEF in the feed line will freeze up.
