Has anyone had success with a DIY roll on bed liner or is it worth the 500 or 600 for line-x or other brands professionally done. I read a comment that it voids your corrosion warranty as they scuff the paint in the bed.

The "Rustoleum" brand roll on diy kit used to list scuffing the bed in the directions. It did work pretty well, I used it to coat some trailing arms on a truck. The guy didn't like the paint chipping, and didn't want the truck torn down too long. It held up pretty good.

The spray on, like Rhino Lining and such, is stout. Stuff does not come off, and I dented the hell out of my old truck. After 200k of abuse, chemical and bludgeon, it was still stuck, even around where it was scraped to bare metal dragging engine blocks

Never used it but what’s your time worth?

Obviously there’s a loss with taking the truck to/from. Truck bed seems like half a day work with the sanding.

I think I paid closer to $1k for my line-x (8’ box).

The problem with DIY, for me, is a 5HP compressor isn’t big enough and I don’t have a place to do it.

Anyways, I keep trucks for 10 years so IMO it’s well worth it. Lots of dealers will have line-x installed on new trucks on th e lot.

IMO, it’s well worth it to have it done professionally And I’m a real DIY’er

i did it two times its time consuming and its at least a days work prep to paint then let dry over night. sometimes it its easier to just cut the check and get it done.

I did mine myself with the spray in Raptor Liner kit. It cost me about $200ish and I went ahead and did around the fenders and skirts too as well as some accents on the bumpers. Shes just a work truck and she takes a hell of a beating. It took me a solid day to do it, not a long day but a solid one. Im very happy with it.

I had my truck done about a month after I bought it in 2020. It was $550 in texas. They did A LOT of prep work, removed everything including in bed 5th wheel plugs etc. It was worth it to do it...by the time I bough the supplies, sanding discs etc...and spent the time time I'd save what $200? My time for a full day is worth more to me than that... It's warrantied, and I know it was done right by guys who do that everyday vs me "figuring it out."

You will not need to be concerned with any corrosion warranty if you live in CA or AZ

Around here in So. OC you have Line X and Rhino. If I were going to use a truck bed heavy I would never line it. A bed liner insert is a much better program for tossing in broken concrete as an example, construction stuff basically which is what we do. For regular duty a professional spray in is 1000x better than Raptor Liner. The bedliner in a can is a joke.

Raptor is a 2 part polyurethane. Its consumer based. Line X and Rhino is a multi part urethane and is night and day stronger, is anti-consumer in application, and as of 6 mo ago I was quoted $740 for my short bed Ram. I will go ahead and do this when I purchase a service type shell as the bedliner insert will no longer fit.

As you see on my trailer the Raptor works perfect for exactly what I used it for and I will never have to repaint a fender. Notice inside the bed of the trailer you see a flat black paint test spot? Well, the inside is now painted Rusteloum Flat black with an enamel hardener mixed with a little reducer and rolled. Many don't know you can fuck with HD Box bought gallons and turn it industrial grade but there are ways. :)

Thanks all. The worst thing the bed of this truck will see is a golf cart. We travel full time and recently bought a golf cart so needed a truck bed to haul it in. Got rid of our wrangler that we towed for four years.

Raptor liner works well. I use it on my race car body parts that get blasted by rocks coming off the tires.

If it was a newer truck, I'd take it to Line-X.

I used gray Herculiner in my mini schiada floor and after 7 years, she is still holding up perfectly fine.

on a newer truck i would pay to have it done. i have done a couple of beaters and parts with the roll on, but on a newer truck no way. bullet liners in HB will do it for about 650 and takes 4-5 hours. well worth it in my .02
