Looking for a 16-18' dual axle trailer to haul around a small car, ie Mini Cooper. 2800lbs. Most have GVWR's of like 7k... I'm gonna tow it behind my bus but I kinda want an enclosed so we can pack stuff in it like bikes, power wheels, etc. as well. Is there anything I should be worried about otherwise? I've seen a couple youtube videos about price differences in construction such as sidewall gauge thickness, glued seams versus visible screws, etc. My biggest worry is the rear door, can it support having a car driven over it? I like that the wheels are tucked inside the trailer, I dont necessarily need the width with the MC is so small.

Something like this... basic.

Wouldn’t that put you at about 85’?

85' sheesh. The thought was to toss a little hitch onto the mini, when we get close to destination unload it, hook the trailer up to it. Then back it alongside the bus or in another spot. Most of the sites we have been to we have been asking and they have been able to park a small (under 20') trailer in a spot nearby or next to ours.

Plus I feel like I'd get a lot more use with what we do with the enclosed and being able to pull it with my truck or our RR.

I have a 20ft Pace that I haul cars with. Getting my butt in and out of a modern car, say 49 and newer, is interesting. The reason being the wheel wells and door clearance. If you plan on hauling the same type of car, you can set your tie down points to make then easier to access.
For your application, probably not an issue...but I carry some small sections of 2x4 to drop the door on if it is uneven, or even a crown/gutter slope. I'm always afraid I'll screw up the door, and sometimes I'll be in places that are unpaved.

Good advice. And with a Mini it will be a squeeze getting out. It's doors are low and relatively long.

Before you buy anything, test it on the lot. This is a serious deal breaker on ideas like that. A mini is narrow but sill a car with a door. If you want to get fancy, you could probably order a side door in the right location to open before loading and then open the car door into this opening. The better lines from the better builders allow customization. My small I5 would do this type of thing fairly easy. One of the greatest things I did with it was had E-track built into the wall at about 12" and 36". If I did it again I would add it around the front, across the door (yea weak but still useful) and down the floor. Everyone who has been around that trailer is just in love with it.
Also, think about the size you want. A mini is small and light, how big do you really need? A friend has a 7x12 with tandem 3.5k axles. Mine is a 10x6 with a single. He cusses his all the time as he would have been fine with my size. The difference is that mine is easy for one person to push around including turning and spinning when on a reasonable surface. His requires a truck if you want to do anything other than wherever its pointed. You could get that mini in one with a 5k single easily. Then again, this is RDP, go for the triple.......

Worst case a winch will work no problem. I wanted an escape door but found a deal on my enclosed without one. It is a contortionist act getting out of my race car, but it works. Mine is 8' wide. Considering an in floor winch.

The trailer you pictured I'm almost sure is a "Deep South" build. the fender design on the inside and some other things give it away. They have several options..mine is all LED, more diamond plate etc. You want the diamond plate at the v, and the bend to the main trailer. The inside of the trailer is very wide, which is good, and the doors are overbuilt, and heavy as hell because of it. Mine has a spring assist on cables..id assume that one will too. I have a bigger one, have no real complaints...they are no Pace/haulmark etc...the price reflects it and so does fit/finish..but it does just fine for me. Be prepared to spend a day doing some silicone work etc but other than that they are great for the money.

I had a Pace for years, great flawless trailer. I have a sundowner Ultra all aluminum flatbed now.

the problem My bed and most are just 82 or 83 inches wide on the deck. My Lambo is 82 inches wide at the rear tires!!! so I have an issue. I’m trying to find another low profile trailer that’s 85 or 86 inches wide and I’m not having much luck. I can have an enclosed made even with a removable inside fender, but I have been down that road. I only tow 300 miles too big and bulky, I like the flatbed with a box up front for a windscreen works quite well.

Trying to find a solution.

Give Peter Brock or Montrose. a call either will make it work. Brock is in Henderson.

Maybe if I cut the rails, I need to look at the position of it next time in Vegas. Thx for the thought That Aventador's rear wheels are 16" wide, that is the big issue. I had it on once, if those rims hit the sides, then OUCH.

I would think a mini would be easy to get out of. How wide could it be? Getting out of my Chevelle is a little tight but it has to be way wider than a mini.

It is wider in back than the front, right? If you can get the front on OK I think you have many options to make the back tires fit with minor modifications to an open trailer.

Does your door clear the wheel well? My only saving grace is a lot of the cars I tow have running boards, so I'm given at least that much door opening😂
Nice Car!

Yes rear is wider, even front tires are close, but not so much as rear, like zero clearance. I’ll look at it possibility of modification tomorrow. I use through wheel ties downs, E track would be best.

I just checked, the Montrose is only 82.5” wide inside.

Are you able to see what you are doing if you pull it onto the trailer with the door up? Can you stick your head out and easily see and place the left front wheel?

I like the through wheel tie downs as well.

5.5’ wide. That gives 8-9” or so on each side. Door is 11” from the ground clearance wise. Worst case I line it up and winch it in via the tow hook in the front bumper so I don’t have to climb out the window.

I’m trying to find a 16’ v nose enclosed car trailer… they don’t seem to exist? 16x7’ are all “cargo” trailers.

I was talking to a friend this afternoon and he was asking about my quotes from a couple years ago to have 3 enclosed trailers shipped from back East. They only need 2 of them.

Obviously my pricing from a couple years ago is now completely inaccurate, but you could have a 16’ V nose car hauler built. That is exactly what I was looking at building for myself. I ended up with an 18 foot flat front.

This was right at $5k 2 years ago.

Convert one of your lambos to a hauler. I bet bonesfab could do it right!

I found this just at $7k. I like the white and black. But it’s only 7’ wide. I like the ones that are a little wider and the tires/fenders are recessed in the sides.

Get a full 8'6" wide trailer, the only way to go.
