Have any of you done the DPF delete/tune on a newer LMM Duramax? What were your gains in mileage? Just got smogged (what a joke that was) and am now thinking of going this route to get better mileage. I know there are some potential issues with long term warranty etc but the poor mileage is killing me. Also, who is the Duramax guy in So Cal. I hear about Spartan but seems they only work with the Powerstroke.

Do it! It's like getting an entirely new truck!

I deleted the DPF, DOC and muffler with a 4" MRBP turbo back exhaust and went with the Quadzilla StealthII and I run on the 90hp tune. When I tow heavy, I'll back down the tune to 50hp. If you feel like spending a lot on your tuner, go with PPE. Im on the fence to switching over.

My truck is lifted on 35's and depending on how I drive I guess I average around 17-18 highway and 15 city. With the DPF I got 14 highway and 12 city. If you delete the DPF you should also get the All Seasons PCV reroute kit and the EGR blocker plate.

When you are ready call Chad at Alligator performance. This guy has the best prices. Ive sent a few people to him and they have all been very happy. http://www.alligatorperformance.com/

One very important thing you must install are a boost and EGT gauge. You need to learn when to downshift your trans and the egt is what tells you that. Your stock turbo will only handle about 36 lbs so you need to monitor that when you step on it. One drive to the river where your climbing serious grades and you'll know what Im talking about.

Check out the diesel place.com and just start searching "dpf delete" there's a ton of great info on there. Asking this question here will get you a lot of responses from tree huggers telling you that you are a bad person for increasing the size of your carbon footprint.

Is LMM the urea burner? Check out PPE. Best for Duramax IMO. Mine is a pre-urea, can't remeber which it is, but the PPE works great! Run program 3 or less and you don't have to worry about "freight train" exhaust either. If you run Socal hwys you rarely see over 75 for any length of time (lol) so you'll do great- If I'm out roadfarming @ <70mph (all pretty open hwy here) I can get over 20 all day. I've run 200 mi (to my inlaws several times) with the CC on 80 I see 16-17, CC on 90 you drop to 13ish, and I drove it once at upto 115 unless in the small ticket trap towns and radar warnings and got 11mpg (and cut 45 min. off my drive- probably 50,000 mi and 2 yrs off my truck too!)
Check into PPE- not cheap but worth it.

The PPE defiantly gets better mileage. :thumbsup

Thanks for the info UD. 08 so prior to the piss tank. I have the same set up with 35's and your spot on with the DPF mileage. Sucks! Have heard the PPE + 2 is the way to go as well. I was looking at the Edge CTS race as it has all the gauges but I do not like the idea of having that on my dash all the time. Had not heard about the EGR and PCV? I will do some reading on the diesel forums. As for the tree huggers, when you start paying for my fuel then you can bitch that I am a bad person!! Obviously, GM realized the piss poor mileage was an issue as they now have the piss tanks on 11 and newer.

BINGO!

And they EPA's thought behind the dpf was retarded anyhow. Burn more fuel to create less soot... pretty dumb IMO.

dschifan (Dustin) just put the Edge EVO on his truck and loves it....Another Happy Alligator Perf Customer btw... His truck is on 38s.

I do agree with you on the dash mounted console though. Ive always liked the look of gauges on the a-pillar myself. However the monitor is pretty cool and will save you some money. And some of them do look pretty cool as you can change the display options.

PPE is the best one. I just didnt want to spend $1000 at the time. Now Im thinking about it.:D

Sorry for the hijack. Anybody have any luck with Orange County Diesel? I ordered some exhaust hangers from them so I can have them re-install my Cat for my past due smog check. I am planning on going there this week for the install.

Any programmer recommendations for a LLY engine? Looking for better gas mileage, not really drag racing.

I've got an '11 Silverado with the LML engine and the urea injection, and my mileage is all over the board. The other day driving from Fontana to Whittier, I got 22 mpg, but usually around town and no freeway driving I'll get between 12 and 13. On a couple of river trips taking the 10 to Rice Road running mostly 80 mph I pulled 19 mpg, but on the way home with a headwind all the way going the same speed I only got 14. Last Thursday I had to run to San Diego to get a permit signed off, I got 15 going down there and 18 averaged on the way back home to San Dimas. If it goes into regen in town it'll really drop the mileage down, if it does it on the highway I barely notice it.

I haven't hit a sweet spot yet to find the most economical speed yet, but I'm sure if I slow down to 70 I'll see a considerable difference in my mileage.

The urea injection doesn't bother me, it costs me about $25 every 6000 miles, that's about 6 trips to Starbucks I don't make - I can live with that.
