I got outbid in the last 10 seconds on an item this morning.

How do these sniper programs work?

Which one do you use?

Thanks

Have never used a sniper program personally... always just open 2 windows to the item I want and click my final price and click through until the final "submit bid" click... and refresh the other page and do a countdown. 5 seconds left and I click the submit button... Never been out sniped using that method...

I've been using powersnipe.com for years...it's bulletproof. If you really, really want something it's great. I just put in a bid that I know is outrageously high and it's mine when the auction ends.

It automatically bids the minimum higher amount than the existing high bid, usually less then five seconds before the auction ends.

Using the two window method works as long as you can sit in front of the computer at the exact time the auction ends...with a sniping program you can just bid and go drinking or to the lake or have sex (the only things that matter :D ).

AuctionStealer. As I remember you get 3 free snipes per month, but even if you pay you make your money back.

I've been using esnipe for years... Very easy to use... Be careful, it's addicting! I haven't used the traditional way of bidding in a long while. The best part about it is that you're not constantly driving up the price of the item..

I highly recommend www.esnipe.com

Yep...

I don't understand people that just hammer away on the bid button....why make it cost more?

Oh, I forgot, the best thing about Powersnipe is that they haven't billed me for the annual fee since around 2001. Free is always good. :D

I see all these programs, but I may buy off of ebay 3-5 times per year. Not a regular user.

Is there a free option? Or should I look at one that charges a percentage instead of monthly or annual fee?

I think esnipe is a token or credit system? Too lazy to check.

I use them only a few times per year too and have not incurred any fees beyond the transaction itself. I think it's pay on an as needed basis.

Powersnipe is on sale for $45 a year right now...if you buy 3-4 things a year it'll easily pay for itself. The thing to consider is how many times you bid on something that was just what you needed and lost it because some asshole used a sniping program. :D

No shit.... :thumbsup

So, while I was checking on how much esnipe costs I saw a notice that I'm overdue to buy more bidpoints.. I paid $15 for 1500 dollars worth of stuff.. It should last me a while.. Well worth the money I saved by having the computer do the work for me.. I've bought dozens on stuff using the system, not one fail..

What if the guy you are bidding against is using esnipe too?

That happens almost every time. The snipe computers fight it out and the person that sets the highest amount wins the auction.

X2....Powersnipe is the Bomb!

I actually bought my airplane on eBay almost 10 years ago.....no powersnipe in those days but I remember being in the office at lunch time, 4 or 5 windows open with 5 progressive bids ready to go.......when we bought it I think it was one of the highest priced auction up to that time...over $100K but nothing by today's standards!

I use powersnipe these days at least 3-4 times a month. With all my travel eBay and Costco (when I'm home) make up about 90% or where I spend $$ shopping these days!

Cheers!

see this is why I like gunbroker. when some one bids near the closing, they add more time to the auction.

esnipe kicks ass or even ebay as a auto bid now just with a hour put the highest you willing to pay and it only goes up a couple dollars at a time dont just outbid the person by a dollar

Had it happen to me on Sunday with only 6 seconds left and I was the highest bidder with less than a minute left by a pretty wide margin with nobody else bidding between me and auction end. I absolutely fell prey to this and the wife was really disappointed as she wanted this particular pair of shoes BAD.....

OK, just bought 500 esnipe points and placed a bid. I'll let you know how it works come Thursday afternoon.

The only thing I didn't like is esnipe needs your ebay password, that can be kinda dangerous.

It's the only way they can get into your account to make a bid, though? I've only used it a few times but no problems.

OutColed make sure your bid is at the last second or two with the maximum amount you are willing to pay.

As mentioned, I lost one a while back when I foolishly set the bid at 5 seconds, and apparently was outbid by another program with only 1 second to go.

It's also interesting to see the shilling to drive the price up and then second chance type scam, look it up.

Lastly, it's kinda funny watching biddders who have no clue, or think they can manually outbid technology. :fingers:

Thanks for the tips, I just made those changes.

From esnipe:

What is the ideal buffer time?
The buffer time specifies the number of seconds before the end of the auction that eSnipe is to attempt to place the bid. Our tests show the ideal buffer time to be about 4 to 8 seconds. Although we don't recommend it, we have seen many auctions won with a 2 or 3 second buffer time. The smaller your buffer time, the more likely you are to miss the end of the auction. The larger your buffer time, the more likely you bid will be placed, but you also stand a better chance of being out sniped. If you are concerned about eBay being slow during a very important auction, we recommend 10 seconds to play it safe.

I use 7 seconds.... Be careful on the 1 or 2 second thing... We're still dealing with the internet and computers, anything can happen.. Give yourself more time...

Ok, this esnipe thing worked perfect! Won two bids this weekend because of it.

Thanks for the tip!
