Just picked up a project boat and will be rebuilding the motor and it has a Mercruiser SC blower with a Teague Super Chiller (supposed to be rebuilt by TBS and never ran, just been sitting). I have read some on these blowers as I am not familiar with boat motors and am trying to educate myself as I come from a drag racing engine background. I still need to have all the parts and heads checked by my machinist but was told it is a BBC 540 and it does have 088 heads with purple stripe springs (factory springs). The bottom end has H beam rods and a nice looking crank with a hydraulic roller cam, and it does have flat tops with a single cutout for the valve. I have read that the SC blower is a Weiand 177 and the pulleys can be swapped for more HP, is this OK for this application since it has a super chiller? Is there anything special I should be looking at changing or paying attention too for the rebuild?
Thanks

It most likely already has a smaller pulley, but those blowers were used on a smaller engine originally so it may need more...

You should be able to run 6-7 psi with that configuration. I would run the engine and see what it's making. Measure the top pulley and call our parts boys for your options.

Thanks for the info and I will be giving them a call very soon. My plan is to put it back to together fresh so I know where I am starting from and if it truly is a 540 I will start thinking about a larger blower.

I have seen some cool electronic throttle body injection setups in the classifieds how does everyone like those compared to carbs for a boat?
