I have a small outdoor spa for the kids to splash in. It has what appears to be a gfci protection module inline to the plug. The outlet is a gfci outlet on a sub panel. Do I need the module on top of the outlet? Recently it trips over and over. Even with no big load (heater/pump) applied. I checked for a short across the white and black wires and there’s some resistance but not a dead short. If I shake and bang the thing around it’ll run for a little bit and then again it starts clicking like crazy. If I had to guess it’s probably 5 years old and has sat outside in the elements it’s whole life.

Can I just replace it with a regular 3 prong plug?

There's a reason it has a gfi plug on it so my advise is to replace it with the same type even if yore outlet is gi. Take no chances when it comes to family safety. jm.02
