Ok I am tired of paying cox $170 a month to watch 1 TV with DVR and 1 TV without out DVR. We have no "movie" channels and I think we are 1 step above the most basic package they have.

So here is a list of the channels we like to watch - how can I get these some other way?

Channels watched...

2 through 13 - all the local Orange County LA stations and PBS
The ESPN channels
TBS
TNT
The news and sports networks of Fox / NBC / CBS example - FS1 or CBSSN / Fox News etc
The Big 10 network
OWN and the other networks that show the crime shows
Maybe MTV - because Ridiculousness is always fun to have on when nothing else is on

We don't really watch movies, don't need foreign language stuff, and most very thing else is very occasional - It's hard to admit but all the car related shows are just BS fake drama so I stopped watching them.

SOOOOO - who can help me figure out how to get these networks without buying COX any longer. I don't want a dish or Direct tv and wee will be keeping the COX internet service because its the only cable service in our area.

Is there a web site to convert what I watch into a solution? I just hate being tied to cox and spending that much money with them.

More than $2,000 a year to watch TV - NO MORE!

We just dumped directv after about 15 years. Switched to youtube tv, IMO its the closest to what we had with ease of use and the channel guide. Had it about a month and so far so good. its $50 a month so we are saving about $70 from where we were with direct.

And you get all the locals except for KTLA. Not sure why that ones not included

Can you look at the networks we watch (listed above) and tell me if they are on Youtube.tv?

Or provide a list / link to their network list?

I looked real quick- looks like the only ones you would be missing are MTV & KTLA 5. Everything else was there.

They do a free 2 week trial. That's probably the best thing to do. I ran it at the same time with my DTV to make sure there wasn't anything I couldn't live without. I like ridiculousness too so that sucked but its the only thing I watch on mtv and pretty sure you can find the episodes on regular youtube

Is Youtube better than SlingTV? My daughter has slingTV and seems to like it, all the channels she wants for like $50/mth. Also, easy to navigate.

I started using this at the River house by streaming it thru my IPAD and connecting to the TV thru HDMI cable. Whats the risk?? They advertise selling VPN access so you cant be hacked. Are they gonna hack you if you dont buy their VPN??

You could get a HDTV over the air antenna for the local stations. From what I understand they have become pretty good.

I thought I saw MTV on their list - The KTLA was not there.

Do you know if the ABC / NBC / CBS stations from LA or some other location?

I did Amazon prime - I’m already paying for the service so I bought an Amazon TV device on eBay for $10 and am running the Cinema App, Kodi, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, & Epix for about $35 a month. For local channels just download their app. Local channels suck, because of commercials, but I have to watch my weekly dose of Blacklist. This beats the crap out of Fios and home phone service for over $300/month.

My wife has an Amazon Prime account but it doesn't seem like the things we want to watch are on there - I like your idea about the app - I didn't think of that for the news stations that are local. Thx

Had cox in vegas and about $125/month for basic cable and internet.
It sucked.
I forget what speed it was but it was slower than molasses in january
Finally cut the cable and put up an antenna and got all the local stations and about $65 a month for internet and used netflix

Had Direct with no pay channels $132 a month. Went with YouTube TV for now. Pretty equivalent to my Direct package for $60. Unlimited DVR included.

I never bothered getting a better antenna since it works so good.
I get hulu for free since I have sprint and use my daughter's prime movies cuz I'm cheap lol

that is what we have and works great.
We have Spectrum Internet only (highest download speed possible @ 100 a month)
Then Amazon Prime, Hulu Live, Netflix and Disney + for the kid

Same here. We get all the programming we watch and them some for a lot less than cable. With smart , no additional cables necessary.

I know one person with youtube but don't know anybody with Hulu - how do they compare from a price point and also do they carry the same networks as youtube?

The person I know with youtube says he likes it because it has the guide feature like I'm used to with cable - Does Hulu have a guide ?

hulu live has a guide. We have not missed a show. Even use the DRV built into Hulu Live.

Its a Spectrum Sports net - cox channel 1063 I think? I know the national games will be shown on ESPN etc but it doesn't look like Spectrum offers a way to watch it or buy it as an add on.

The only thing I see is NBA Leagues Pass - I've never done one of the one before and this one on Youtube was $40 or $49 - The cost alone just doubled my great deal of only paying $50 for youtube.

I cut the cord a while back. I have Netlfix, Amazon Prime, Siing and Hulu via my Spotify premium. Sling had the options I wanted. I wanted BEIN sports for soccer so it was a better option than Hulutv or Youtube TV for me as they don't have that channel. Also not sure if they have the Redzone which comes as part of sling. With Sling you get NBC and Fox. For the other locals I hooked a antenna and run it to an amazon fire recast. This provides the ability to stream all the locals to any tv on the same network or a mobile device and includes DVR. Wife took a bit to figure it out but it is going good at this point. Sling has DVR too. If you go with their over the air antenna option to get locals you will see the locals right from the sling guide. I did not want to locked into sling so went with the recast option.

So again - any option out there other than buying the full NBA package to see the Laker games?

I hate pay 40 bucks a month for a couple of games a week when I’m trying to reduce cost but cutting cable.

I'm trying to decide on internet for the new place. Down to Cox or Century Link. I'm pretty hesitant with Cox due to it being more expensive for the first year, a download limit, and WAY more expensive after the 1st year. You ever have any issues with running near your download limit?

Noticed neighbors Direct dish on the street with the trash.

With Free Prime and YouTube, cheap Disney, Curiosity and Netflix and now the excellent digital antennas the sun is setting on Direct for us too.

Was just about to watch Country Music on PBS on Sat Direct in the desert in the RV and the snow storm blocked the signal.
Clicked over to the Ridgecrest antenna station got the show with excellent HD reception.

Direct should be free and the TV stations pay Direct to carry their signal.

It has never timed out on me yet. Still seems to be to good to be true. I only run it through my IPAD, Apple seems to be pretty good at cyber security.
