I designed this “improved” umbrella mount for my boat swimstep. The guys I agreed to have put it all together… well, see for yourself 🤬😩

Throw it away start over 😁
I got another piece of tube. I’m gonna cut the hack job tube off and start over. Need someone that can TIG weld the tube on CORRECTLY.

All stainless.

From the looks of it they tried to tig weld but someone doesn’t know how to back purge or weld stainless steel. Or it was cheap China stainless, that stuff is such poor quality. The good stainless is getting pricey.

From the looks of it, I bet they had Stevie Wonder as the torch!

Yep. I’m leaving for Havasu on Friday for a week. I’ll get ahold of you when I get back.

Thanks!

Stainless is a PITA to work with, takes some skill/experience. We built a stainless umbrella holder for someone's floating hangout bar in Havasu recently. Patent pending!

These inflatables from Bote are pretty darn cool.

thats the truth. ill weld the hell out of some aluminum, but i struggle a bit with SS. ive been told i try to run it to hot / fast and over cook it and burn the nickel out. a few beads here and there im ok, but all day i struggle.

Just saw this (for some reason)....

You may be a step ahead of me on this, but a good tip for using that style of lock bolt / retaining bolt, without garfing up the thing you're clamping in the tube....centerdrill the bolts about 3/8" deep and smash in a piece of weedwacker string....biggest you can fit in whatever bolt you're using. Leave 1/4" or so hanging out of the tip of the bolt, and that'll sorta smash up in the hole against the thing you're clamping and create a nylon tipped bolt and hold it in place nicely without so much as damaging the paint most times.
