We been to Mexico a few times and never had a problem. Just curious about Cabo, always wanted to go. What's the best resort to stay at.

We go every year. Never had a problem. Stay in the touristy areas. You’ll be fine

Last year we stayed at The Cape, in past years we stayed at Pueblo bonito sunset, Pueblo Bonita Pacifica, The ME cabo. All of which are awesome.

We’ve stayed at the hacienda beach club and residences and have always felt safe. It is right next to the marine feels private and a short walk to everything.

Cabo is one of the most dangerous places in the world... BUT... if you use the resort transportation to and from your resort and basically stay at your resort and maybe a little in town shopping during the daylight hours only.. it is probably very safe... It is a shame that it has turned into a shithole.. It is so beautiful.. We still go there from time to time.. we stay at grand solmar... pretty sick place.. .cabo is expensive in the resorts.. I would go on the boat tour to lovers beach... skip the night clubs entirely .. you will be fine

Try to go often, and parents go couple times a year. Never had a scary moment. I feel safer walking in town at night than LA. You just need to watch for potholes. Lol.

We have time shares at Pueblo bontino sunsent. Let me know and I can sell you a week. Check out the resort.

Watching this thread. We’re going in May and staying in the Terrasol Beach Resort Condos that a couple inmates recommended. Planning on doing a fishing day charter with my son who will be turning 21 on that trip. Any recommendations?

I still go there but we don't go to the bars at night.. we are careful how we use transportation.. where we eat and drink.. It is not like it used to be... I get that many places are dangerous in our world.. Mexico is one of the most violent places in the world... just a fact. I would still go but I would advise you to be careful.. Use pre arranged hotel transportation.. stop at Costco.. go to resort... stay out of town at night.. The government is cracking down on the violence there and it is pretty safe in the town due to a very heavy police presence.. Don't be an idiot and you will be fine..

We fish with Redrum, father has been finishing with the for 20+years. Their boats are older Bertram’s and Californians that have been refurbished. Not the fancy style boats that Picante runs (Cabo’s). But their crew and office staff are top notch. They even vacum seal your catch and freeze it. A sandwich lunch is included and waters.

Caught this with one of their sub boats when they are fully booked in October 17’

Cabo...lol.
Don’t cross the road at the marina, and don’t go north of town past paved roads and your good.

Full disclosure:

In 2000 I smoked crack with the chief of police in Cabo. This was after I pulled my Boker switch blade on a street vendor (in the middle of the street, had it to his juggler while cars waited) who ripped me off on a hand to hand. A cat I met called “Cabo Neil” straightened everything out with me and the popo and all their drug dealing nephews.
Bottom line. Go there as a tourist. Be a tourist, do the tourist things and spend the tourist money and nothing will happen.
Go down ally’s looking for shit and it’s a sure thing you will find it.

I was there with Deb about 5 years ago as a tourist and it was fantastic.

I have walked one mile back to my Hotel with my ex at 1:00 AM after leaving the casino many times and never felt anything but safe. The only other people walking were workers walking home. Ridden the City Bus all over town for $1.00. One Friday night after dinner four of us ended up out of the tourist area and in the shopping district the locals use. Lots of young people hanging out, listening to music and some great deals to be had. Again felt perfectly safe. There are many cities in the US where I would not do that. We once got kicked out of Cabo Wabo. Of all the places I've ever been kicked out of, they were the nicest. I threw the security guy a 20 on the way out and he said he would give it to the guy who cleaned up our mess. When we came back, he gave us our pictures and found us a seat.

The harbor is a tourist area and lots of panhandlers with restaurants and only a couple are good, we typically spend no time there and only go when we are fishing.

Usually relax at the resort then cruise to town for dinner/drinks, lots of good places. You can hire a driver and go to la Paz and stop at todos santos and hits some cool beaches along the way.

It's a fishing town. Bring your appetite. I'm not sure I'd drive in Mexico.

Like anywhere, if you're passed out drunk, you'll probably find yourself in a bathtub full of ice, with a note to call 911, because both your kidneys were stolen, and sold on the black market. :D

I stayed at Todos Santos for nearly 2 months. Rented a camp spot and a palapa on the beach for $4 a day at San Pedrito RV park (off season)
Drove there from Alaska. About every 3-4 days we’d drive to Cabo for supplies and spend the day partying.
Met all kinds of interesting Americans who had relocated.
I wasn’t afraid, I’d shop at the local places far away from the tourist centers. Halfrack of Tecate in a bag on ice and 4 packs of Marlboro ran me about 5 bucks.
They called me “Loco Gringo” after the switchblade episode.
Granted, after telling the Chief that I’d be spending money there for a couple months both at stores and (ahem) with his nephews I sort of had a free pass. Today they’d probably just knife me and rob me if I pulled that shit.

Driving the entire Baja both ways was a trip. Saw all kinds of crazy shit.

Actually much closer to the airport and without the BS of Cabo was Hotel Palmilla. Pricey, but don't believe there is any crime problems. It is now called the One & Only Palmilla. IMHO, that's kind of a sleazy new name. But, I believe the place remains above most of the rest. If your looking for a Cabo Wabo/Giggling Marlin type of venue, this place would not be for you.

We went last June for two weeks. Rented a car and drove all over and as far as La Paz. Never felt unsafe but didn’t go looking for trouble either. Just use common sense. I wouldn’t drive in certain parts of Los Angeles either and the same applies everywhere.

The food was amazing, the locals all very nice. We stayed at at Villa Del Arco and only ate there a couple of times. The rest of the time we drove to local restaurants. Go and enjoy.

...And I am the one who has the Bizzarre stories...looks like it might be a tossup???...
...Closest I’ve come to your deal was diving in the back window of Hussongs Cantina in Ensenada because I felt it was too far to walk around the block to go in the front door... I landed on somebody’s table...security didn’t think too much of this and tried to get me to pay a $60 fine...I kept trying to buy security a drink to throw him off...security finally got so frustrated with me he took off his uniform and went home???...
...And I wasn’t even close to being the biggest crazy of the people I grew up with???...( you would’ve fit in perfectly... lol)...

Ha Ha Ha. Your not bad luck, I just lucky you went home. Or this would be hanging at your house.

No fake news here, all you have to do is stop by the office.

Yeah yeah, they make those from a picture these days. That could have been the size of the bait and you slipped the maker an extra hundy to make it impressive. Lol

(Sure bummed I went home a day early. Really would have liked to see that fish in person!!)

We just have to go again. I need to take the fam down this time. Kids have a blast playing all day. You think you can spare a few summer days from havi? Fishing is the best August, sept, oct. it’s damn hot and muggy though.

I just have to get through the D-world trip next month. 2 years in a row I must be nuts.

I just went in August. We stayed at two places. Hyatt ziva Los Cabos since my cousin works for Hyatt and we got two nights free and then we went to the family time share we all divide and stayed another 4 days at Pueblo Sunset Beach. As a family -we feel comfortable in Cabo. There were two babies under 8 months old on the trip, and two toddlers. But, that comes from my family going to Cabo for many many years that we know where to eat, where to go for night life, and actually know a bartender or two. I have heard stories of trouble-but that usually involves someone looking for trouble. I have never felt unsafe. Went last year for a bachelorette, all girls and we didn’t have an issue going out every night until the late mornings. We do use the taxis, maybe that is naive, but I have never felt unsafe. I feel unsafe in LA.
My 30th birthday is planned next year at Pueblo bonito sunset.

Have fun, be safe, be aware and don’t do anything shady is my advice. And stop at monkey business bar for some margaritas downtown.

My mom and I always stop there after dinner for some drinks. I crave the margaritas all year!

this place is called “the welks” super clean, awesome pools, good price. Right in between the harbor, and San Jose del Cabo. You’ll need a taxi ride either way.

Been to Cabo many times, usually we head a little North and stay in Las Barriles (East Cape) never felt like we were in any kind of danger.
Love the city, food and people.

Like many have said, how many cities here in the states would you not walk around at night?

We go 3-4 times a year and have never felt uncomfortable. Follow the advice above...don't act stupid, obey the laws, use common sense, etc...I'll be there on Friday and let you know how it is....:)

A couple of times back, Sammy Hagar walked into Cabo Wabo and played for an hour....epic!

Have not been in a few years but my Pops has a place in Cascadas. Never felt unsafe in Cabo San Lucas. Los Cabos is where you land, and is the shithole that many are referring to in articles etc.

Like many already said, be a tourist, spend tourist money, and don't break laws like looking for blow/weed etc from strangers, and you will be fine.

Not positive, but I recall this happened on the public Beach called Palmilla. Not at the hotel. The whole area is Mexico though. Haven't been in a while and don't intend to.

been many years since I was there.

my question is....whats it cost in todays dollars? everything I keep hearing is the price aint all that anymore and in fact its downright expensive.

seems to me if I was going to risk something bad happening...and lets be realistic it does happen down there or we wouldn't eve be talking about it...….is it worth a marginal savings compared to other places to go?
