If you're talking about the packing, I've always heard it should snug, but leak a little. If you're talking about the bolts in the floor, I don't have a clue.

Screws right next to the floor screws. Ones that go parallel with the boat. Had water leak issues want things tight. Switching out old bellows (boots)

They should only be tight enough to let a few drops per minute. To tight and you will overheat the packing.

I think Berkeley specs tight enough to allow one drop of water per minute. Tighten them equally.

If you've got bellows sounds like you've got an e or f pump good luck those pumps are known for leaking pretty good, my e pump does, as far as the packing what everyone else said is perfect

The shaft rope packings need to fit snugly against the pump shaft sealing surface to seal the shaft from atmosphere so they dont allow air to be drawn to suction process, the packing adjustment should be tight enough allow a very tiny static drip or "leak" so that water will cool and help lubricate the packings , overtightening will cause them and the shaft to run hot , burnish and wear excessivley call if you have questions Tom 805 466 4719 anytime
