Anybody have good luck with store bought (home Depot, Lowes) product that worked good for them. Or have a home made remedy to kill a stump about 18" across.

I had a stump that kept resprouting until I put a black plastic tarp over it.
Round up didn't work.

I had good luck with the stump killer stuff I got at HD. Drilled holes so the stuff stayed on the stump. Took about a year for it to fully decompose.

From my POS T-mobile thingie

Built a fire on a stump and kept it burning for 3 days. Never grew back.

Bonide makes a stump killer that works reasonable well. I think they sell it both Lowes and HD. Or you could go with an old standby...

If you don't care about the soil around the stump,
-The drill large diameter deep holes
-Fill holes with gasoline, letting gas absorb into stump, may take a few hours or a few days depending on stump
-Place hot coals on stump
-Sit back and watch it burn

Attach a chain to it and attach the other end to your truck, then have someone video it. :)

Seriously id just pay to grind it 12" down and be done with it.

While I like the burning it or blowing up ideas, that just won't work. The stump is in my front yard about 15' from the street.

It's in a flower bed surrounded by little roses and flowers and shit:D so the grinder is kind of a last option. I might just hit up HD for something. But knowing me I'll just use the acid because I have that already.:rolleyes

Or you could use a stump grinder and just get rid of it quick.

I didnt want to be the first one to say it.... For the money you spend on these chemicals at home depot you can rent the grinder and be done with it.

Round Up is a topical herbicide, the tree has to have leaves in order for it to work. The leaves will then absorb the herbicide and basically the plant/tree will starve its self because it can no longer produce any proteins.

If you go the acid route, use a Hole Hawg and drill a bunch of deep 3/4 or 1 inch holes in it first. It'll work much, much quicker.

The Bondi stuff and most other things called stump killer/remover are just fertilize, it makes it rot faster. If you want to kill it because it's sprouting you need something with triclopyr as the active ingredient. Look for brush killer or poison ivy killer something for woody plants. Get the concentrate and paint it on straight with a brush. It does tend to move around a little in the soil so be careful about spreading it around a lot, all you need is a ring just inside the bark.

This is a great rec, also you could drill holes in the bases and use table salt poured in the holes but like foilhead stated about the triclopyr it will also move around with irrigation. Hyvar would be the dope, but doubt you could find it out there and it really moves around and will keep killing and moving for 3-5 years. check Tractor Supply(not sure if you have them around)

My weapon of choice is Garlon 4 with some oil, not really nessecary to cut the tree if you get a good shot on the bark. I figured that was overkill for this. :D

The fertilizer works if the stump is dead and you can plant something to hide it, just takes a few years. Just buy a bag of ammonium sulfate 21-0-0 and put it out every couple of months. I have a couple of yards where we did this and you would never know theres a stump there.

Exactly how we do it back east, but add some alcohol.

The round up is easy and won't bother the flowers. When I used round up on a fruitless mulberry it took about a month ant it was dead. Waited a year and stump came out easy with axe and shovel.
Met a guy who uses round up on his neighbors palm trees.

What about a neighbors tree, that I found the roots are heading right for my house slab? Can I inject the roots with something?

If you can get the nails in the roots. It could kill the tree. You could kill the ground with salt based poisin. last about a year. Or get copper sulfate granuals for septic root killing. Look up copper nails tree kill.
