Does anyone here have suggestions for lighting for an RV garage with 16' high flat ceilings? I've been looking online for info and I have some ideas, but I haven't been about to find a lot of info on good lights for garages with 16' ceilings.

I don't want to use can lights, I'd need way too many of them to get enough light. I'm leaning towards LED lights - The fixtures at this link put out a lot of lumens.

http://www.beeslighting.com/product-p/dv-hb19lmv50k.htm

I'm leaning towards these, and am trying to decide how many of these to get in order to cover a 25 x 50 garage.

What do you guys have in your garages for lighting?

Don't have a RV garage myself, but I know that light placement will be key. Look at my profile pic, not enough light at the back end of the car to do any work.. The RV will take up a significant portion of the garage's volume so make sure to place the lights right so you can see everything you need to see and aren't just bouncing light off the top of the RV

If it was my garage I would put 8-10 with dimming available. With lighting it's better to be looking at it versus
Looking for it!!!

Here's a setup that's on the right track IMO. Better to add more light on a circuit and not use them then have to add them afterwards.

I would do 10 of these with the dimming option as Joe moma said good choice

Those look good for 2 rows of 3 of them. I'd then do like what Traquer posted and do a single LED tube light or something near the corners as well. Each row on its own switch. It's a garage, I wouldn't worry about a dimmer. Specially if each row is on its own switch. I bet there will be VERY few times you'd want to turn down the intensity of the lights.

Thx for the feedback. The garage will have high enough doors and ceiling for an RV, but I will be parking my boat, truck, and maybe another 1-2 cars inside of it. I'm thinking of doing 3 rows of 4 of these lights, with the center row on a separate switch.

It sounds like I'm on the right track, and I think a little too much light would be better than not enough light.

My RV garage is 16' high by 19' wide by 69' long. We have (4) 36" long fixtures installed horizontally on each side spaced evenly along the wall. They are located about 12' off the ground horizontally on the sides. There are two 36" bulbs in each one. It lights up very well.

I have a 16'X60' with the last 50' at 18' to bottom of truss. Front 10' is sloped roof with a mezzanine. Did 3 (4'X4) T-5 lights hung with jack chain at 13' and they are more than I need on summer days in AZ. At night time they are plenty bright. NO dimmer. The front 20' has 8' 75WX2 fluorescents 8' high that come on with door opener or switch. Drive in... Lights on. Go off automatically, or can be turned on/off manually at door opener.

I hate not having enough light. My house garage in HB and havasu both have what the guys helping me do the project thought was an overkill. After the projects both contractors saw the light. I hate having to redo stuff. :D

The RV garage is going to be interesting though. D

I understand you don't want cans, but I used them.

I used 4 inch low voltage IC rated cans. I am about 14.5 feet and wanted all the space possible for a lift.

The low voltage stuff puts out a ton of light compared to a regular can.

Dry wall and wall/floor colors make a huge impact on how a space lights up. Send pic,s after install and i think for the small price for 0-10v dimming control you will be happy..Sometimes its nice to just hang out in the garage with a few coldies late at night without the sun shinning. IMO Good luck with the install!

In our boat barn/RV barn the lights are on the side walls as opposed to the ceiling. Provides much more light. The contractor said he did it that way as he saw no need to have all of the light taken up by the top of an RV when it is needed more on the sides.

High Bay LED or T5 High output are the only way to go for a high ceiling like that.

With a 16' ceiling you'd want to go LED so u never have to change globes.
You only need 4 of them ones u got in than link.
I wouldn't worry about dimming them, dimmers are just a novelty, even in a house.
They look pretty good value for 18500 lumans. Your average Led down lights 800-1000 lumans.
I've offered to put Led high bays in a few sheds but theyre still a bit dear compared to fluros.

We switched out the ballasts and lighting end caps and switched over to LED tubes and electronics using the existing fixture housings in my warehouse. Not only is the lighting twice as bright, the electric bill dropped almost in half. My ceilings are at least 20' or more. Huge difference and can't say enough good stuff about them. Also switched the outside lights to LED wall pack type lights also.

I'm posting to attest how much better LED vs Fluorescent. My garage/shop is unfinished on the inside so I use hanging shop lights. Recently I changed all the fluorescents to LED's from Costco. Half as many lights yet much brighter now, almost daylight at night.

What fluorescents were you using before? The T5s I am using are ridiculously bright. Also, the color of the light makes a big difference, as I'm sure you know.

I have installed a lot of T5's in gym's they are bright but tend to burnout quickly LED is a much better option. But they have some issues also

I'm not sure, does 40 ring a bell in the sizing? Sorry, I honestly didn't pay attention to the bulb size. I do remember something like 4200 kelvins?

3500K 4000K 5000K 6000K

Yea, one of those, lol. I'm no expert that's for sure. As I mentioned mine is unfinished on inside, I'm sure if it was rocked and painted would have been much brighter with fluorescents. I'm very happy with the LED's though.

I would go with 5000K
