I’ve watched it to fall asleep for 10+ years now lol. I just loop it season 1 to season 11 and start all over again. Pretty sure I can quote any episode within 15 seconds of the start

Just finished watching the whole show on Hulu. First episode had a black dude named spear chucker on it. I kid you not. Only made it a couple episodes though.
The first season pretty much happened in the time frame of the movie. "Spear Chucker" Jones was a surgeon that Hawkeye knew in College. Jones was also an all American football player and the 4077th needed a ringer to win their football games.

I think your right about how long the character lasted in the series, maybe then first half of season one ... Too lazy to go look it up.

Mash ended before I was teenager, I do remember my parents watching the final episode and then the reruns for the next 20 years. Lol I probably know every episode as well as others here. It was a great show and Alan Alda is always fond in my childhood memories.

My parents watched this at dinnertime on the tiny color tv in the dinette. This one stands out as a memory.

Love that show. I believe the final episode still holds the record for the most watched episode or final episode, close to 80% of the nation watch that night.

Dad and were really into 53-56 for pickups back then, from the mid 60s to '83 ish. ( I was 9 when he got his first '56, I ain't that old) Anyway the one thing that still bugs me about mash is the school bus they use as a prop is a '54. War ended mid 1953 just about the time my dad and his fellow Marines got off the boat in Korea. Dad was a happy camper having never had to fire a shot in anger. To this day if we watch an episode and I see that bus my wife beats me to the punch..." I know, its the wrong year bus"...

The first one was a Pilot. funny one liner, Thats Major to you! Ok Major baby.
My 2 faves are, 5 o'clock Charlie S2 EP2, and The trial of Henery Blake S2 EP8
Those are 2 of my favorites as well...
Any episode with Colonel Flagg is a must watch.
Early episodes also featured Marsha Strassman of Welcome back Kotter fame.
She played Hawkeye's sometime squeeze.
...she was a young hottie.

Just watched the one where Major Winchester arrives at the 4077th for the first time.

I put the show on when I go to bed.

Really the under current there is anti war, American bad, enemy sympathizers. Ironically the first show's airing was the same year Jane visited North Vietnam

I’m a big fan of the original movie. Some of the trivia says that all those announcements on the PA were added after the movie was shot to act a a segue between scenes. Roger Bowen who played Henry Blake in the movie nailed that part. Bobby Troup had one line in the movie - “goddamn army!”

I was the same in college. Had the box set of dvd's. Could quote shows just by listening to it. Haven't watched it in over 10 years though, might have to go back and watcvh it again. I am re-watching Friends right now which I haven't seen in 10 years. I can still remember the main plots to each episode so far.

Flying out of Sky Harbor in Pheonix when TSA Pre Check wasn't very common yet I'm walking to my gate passing at least a hundred people in the regular line, I'm in heaven.
Get to the security screening and there is 5 people, lady in front of me and a tall stooped over old guy in front of her going through. The old guy beeps a third time and turns around and apologizes to us, me and the lady both say is that Alan Alda at the same time.
He and I walked together for a while just chatting like old friends, where you going etc. very nice Man.👍

If my Father was still alive, he could tell you everything about that show. He watched it over and over. He was a Helicopter Mechanic for the war. He is leaning on the bell, and he made a door for his tent with the wood that the helicopter parts where shipped over in. He is on the left side of the door.

Col. Flagg always solid. Also like any Major Friedman episode.

I remember spear chucker. He was written out in the episode: “operation hide behind the darky”.

Work on Mash off and on for a while. Big Joe and I set the goodbye up under the direction of Alan Alda.

Yea, there was a whole lot of that. Every episode was nothing more than Alan Alda propping up a straw man and then knocking it down. The comedic writing and performances were outstanding but I don’t think I ever saw an episode that didn’t have a strong anti American undercurrent.
