I am running Bitdefender Internet Security 2015. Windows Defender seems unaware that Bitdefender is present. If I have turned off Windows Defender in the rgistry editor, it turns itself back on.

On waking from sleep, both Antimalware Service Executable and Bitdefender are running, CPU utilization is 100%, and my system freezes for several minutes.

I found the answer on Bitdefender's forum, that you can turn Windows Defender off in the Policy settings:

Suggestion was ?
1.Press the Windows key + R to bring up the Run box. Type gpedit.msc and hit Enter.

2.In the left pane of Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to the following location:

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Defender

3.In the right panel you will see a policy labelled “Turn off Windows Defender“. Double-click on that policy and set it to Enabled.

However, Microsoft doesn't seem to recognize gpedit.com when tyiping it in the run box.

I may try to disable AntiSpy and AntiVirus protection, or delete Windows defender all together in the registry editior?
Any suggestion from the RDP IT gurus? Thanks

2015? Thats a fossil today…time for a new PC or Mac. I suggest Mac unless ya need a windows based. Im running a Mac with bootcamp for any windows stuff I need. Anything over 4-5 years old needs to be replaced nowadays.

Wife doesn't want a Mac. My laptop is also 3 yrs old. Not spending more buying a new one just for cruising the internet. The Bitdefender worked great since 2015 and it has the latest upgrade. Microsoft popup warning message shows wrong IP address as well. Thanks for your input though.

gpedit.com was a typo on my side. I did type gpedit.msc in the run box
Shoud I try modify the binary values or delete the antispy and antivirus in the subfolder?

Not sure on that, I'm not a big BitDefender fan. We run EDR software now that interfaces with Windows Defender and is monitored by a Security Operations Center with real humans. Its only $12 a month per PC, so it really is light and friendly. You would have to buy it direct thru an MSP like me, but its light years ahead of the consumer offerings.

Myself, I would uninstall Bitdefender and get their latest package if you still want to with them. See if your CPU usages goes down once uninstalled. Windows Defender is light years better then it was in the past.

Windows, yes.

Ten year old software? Not so much.
We'll switch to Windows 11 anyways, wife doesn't want to learn different OS. Microsoft is going to screw with Windows 10 users, so it is what it is. You'd think Bitdefender does same as Microsoft just upgrading. I had Norton, McAfee in the past , both effed up bigly with our computers. Since 2015, we didn't have any issues with Bitdefender until this Microsoft warning BS popping up. I hate Google too, used Firefox before with no issues. Now, swithing to Firefox from Google makes no difference when some issue comes up. Linux would be a better option, but like I said, wife is hard headed, so no go. I think the whole internet world wide needs a fuckin reset. 🤔:p

I would do a clean install of windows and not run any A/V except for Windows Defender. It's simply no loner needed.

You're gonna find yourself in a world of hurt if you keep editing registry files.

Alternatively, try something like free Revo uninstaller which will SAFELY remove all the registry entries.

Good luck 👍

… I may be missing something here… But my laptop has been unplugged since March 2023… As neighbor girl had set up an office on my coffee table where the laptop was used… Prior to that I was told by a good friend that you really don’t need a large computer or a laptop anymore… you can do it all on your phone… Hence … That is all I use …my iPhone 11… And I can do or find anything I need ..; granted I am not setting up any alogrhythms or any in-depth anything…Sooo🤷🏽‍♀️

So you have two pieces of ten year old software (Win 10 also came out in 2015), and your wondering Why you have issues???

Like C-2 said, quit messing around and do a clean install of Win 11.

I run the lastet version of BitDefender on Win 11. No problems at all. 👍🏼

But wait........

I'm guessing you must be running all this stuff on a 10 plus year old computer too? 😱

Just go buy a new computer already. Anything Costco has will seem like light speed, compared to what you have now.

FYI...

Win 11 will give you security errors if you try to install it on a 10 year old machine.

If you running Win 10, there is a piece of software you can install that will check to see if your machine is compatible.

This will help you out...

FWIW, my Lenovo Thinkuser Carbon workstation laptop is about 12-years old and it still hums along nicely. But I'm sure Win 11 will tank it.

I have not purchased a "new" computer since about 1999. The machines I buy are all off-lease type deals found on eBay.

Earlier this year I bought my daughter an i7 Lenovo Thinkuser workstation for some ridiculous price, I think it was $250, and it came with Win 11 pro!

Thise are sweet. But wont run Win 11. Not because of the power needs. Win 11 is almost lighter then 10. Its the TPM requirements of the processor and only 8th gen and above fulfill that.

Its a crock of shit IMO and just a money grab from Bill shithead Gates.
