Just recovered an old laptop from the blue screen of death. Re-installing software and don't have the product key for my office 2003. Can one of you IT guys pm the key? I paid for this product in 2003...but my IT guy at that time installed it probably with his multi license key because i have the CD, the case and and user guide....but no sticker. Tried using a product key finder program to see if it could find it on the hard drive, but I had to reformat the hard drive so it couldn't find it.

I was cleaning up my office and found my old Dell Inspiron 6000. This was a great laptop. I bought it used from my IT guy, but it was basically new. It hauled ass with lots of different financial and mortgage software on it. I got one of the first anti virus viruses, and got the blue screen of death. My IT guy couldn't fix it....couldn't even get it to boot from a CD....he thought motherboard damage. He took it to a couple "experts" and they couldn't fix it. I stuck it in a box and forgot about it.

So I find it, and remember how great it ran. Tried to start it and got the blue screen again...of course. I decide to google the error codes and turned out to be a super simple fix. The anti virus virus had corrupted the bios, and when you tried to boot from a CD or USB using the F12 key, it would automatically restart from the HDD. So I went into setup via F2....and changed the boot sequence, making the CD the first choice....and bingo....it booted from the CD. It still wont boot from a CD using the F12 key though...but not a big deal.

This thing still runs good. Getting the updates for XP is kind of a pain, but this laptop will be used by my kids for mostly word processing and etc.

I would put Microsoft Security Essentials (its free) on it right away or some other anti-virus. XP is really a problem these days, even with all the updates, and Microsoft is going to stop supporting it soon (no more updates).

yep....first thing I did was load ms security essentials.

well...after updating explorer and a couple of other updates.

this laptop will really kind of be like a work station. won't store any data or docs on it. minimal programs. if it gets hit again....just reload windows.

tapa-typed from my mobile gadget

I have one for Office 2003. I can PM it to you in an hour or two when I get back to my home office.

The CD I have is the Student/Teacher Edition 2003. Not sure if that makes a difference, but the keys I've gotten haven't worked yet.

I also tried a program to find my key codes on the hard drive, but since I re-installed XP, the program can't find the original key on the computer.
