need help with 04 F150

So my truck just reached 70kmiles and it sounds like a diesel i was told by the dealer its a common problem (but ford doesn't cover it) and has to due with timing chain tension and they want $1000 to fix it can anyone help me out with a good deal to fix this thing

Does your truck do it all the time? I have an 04 Ranger with the 4.0L and I think it's doing the same thing. Please let me know what the outcome is. :thumbsup

Yes my truck does this all the time I was told by the ford dealer it has to do with wt controls there variable cam timing I know there's tech service bulletin on the f150s having this problem

I did not know this was an issue with the F150 motors as well. Ford's 4.0L SOHC motors were notorious for making a heavy rattling noise in the top end under load......something to do with the cam gears, I believe. All 3 of my '99 4.0 SOHC's did this. Ford claimed it was "normal" and would not correct the issue. Just try to sell a truck that makes that kind of noise and explain that it is "normal". Will not buy a new Ford cuz I'm still pissed!

Just so everybody doesn't keep bashing on FORD (which is the only Truck I would buy) I work for Toyota and I fix this problem with them (and not JUST the truck's either) everyday! They have the same issue along with MANY MANY MANY other's!:skull

As a long time ford guy (Bought 5 brand new trucks and 2 certified mustangs) the problem I had was the lack of customer service. I love the vehicles but was treated like my business meant nothing. I dont know if the other American Manufactures would be any better and hope I dont have to find out
