I will probably be buying a jet soon. Can someone tell me the safe way to start a jet while sitting in someones driveway. I'm familiar with I/O's and the fake lake attachment. Do jets need or have something similar? Also, How long can you run a jet boat motor while out of the water as it applies to the jet?

Most jet boats have some kind of a garden hose connection coming off of the jet drive just inside of the transom on the left side (this is the water inlet for the engine from the jet pump) Take a look there first.....the seller should have a way that he does it ?? Depending on what type of exhaust system it has (headers or logs) it is best to start it up first and then turn to water on (just enough to keep it cool not full blast) and then shut the water off before shutting down the engine this will prevent any water backing up into the engine through the exhaust system when it is not running. I also like to put a second water supply in the rear of the jet nozzle to rinse, lubricate and cool the impeller (the jet pump can pick up dust and sand when towing the boat down the road and the water can help clean it out) just put a hose into the nozzle about 10" and put the jet into reverse and the reverse bucket will hold the hose from coming out. Most people just start the engine without any water and run it for a min or so without any water hook up at all, with the proper water supply you could run it all day, without not more that 30 to 45 seconds....Oh well good luck with your purchase.....Happy New Year !!:champagne:

Get one of the hose splitters (looks like a Y) that you would attach to water spicket at you house. Get a couple sets of the male female hose connectors and build a simple set up that will allow you to shoot water back to the pump as well as to the engine while running.

When I start mine out of the water I always run water to the pump first and let it flush out what it can. After the engine is started I open the valve and put water through the engine. Shut the water off to the engine before shutting it down and then kill the engine.

Pretty simple. Like stated above, if you run it out of the water without water going to the pump it can damage the impellar due to road grime and what ever else was in there the last time it was put on the trailer.
