Guys,
I have always run the Merc 25w-40 oil in my 496 HO.

Guys are out in my area. I was told the Quicksilver oil (25W-40) is the same stuff.

I know this has been covered here but I cant find it.

Is it all the same?

thanks in advance

It's the same stuff quicksilver or merc, look at the part # 92-8M00786xx (where the xx at the end denotes the size of the bottle, 1 quart, 1 gallon, full drum)

Both carry the same part number.

The Green Merc Gear Lube+ was the same way quicksilver or merc branded.

The new Merc racing honey color gear lube is a different deal.

I have a quart of the "old" merc racing gear lube that is blue and a quart of the "new" gold colored stuff and the part number and bottle is exactly the same.

Interesting. I've never used the new stuff, If they have the same part number i would assume they are interchangeable.

The old green/blue stuff always worked well.

The old gold gear lube was called Premium the 90 weight green lube is High Performance and Racing has a Honey colored multi viscosity gear lube which all can be bought under the Mercury label or Quicksilver label and YES they are the same oil just labeled different.

I would like to see a pic of both bottles side by side. Something is not right because inside there is clearly two different oils

I believe I still have both in my storage unit where my boat is. I thought it was strange as well.

To answer the original question, yes, Quicksilver and Mercury 25W-40 ENGINE oils are the same. Mercury brands 2 different labels for point of sale reasons.

Mercury High Performance gear lube is still the bluish/green and not the same as the new Mercury honey colored racing gear lube.

People see QS lower drive oil and it says hi performance and they think it’s what a ssm needs. But it’s not how it is lol

IIRC that Quicksilver Hi Performance Gear Lube (blue green stuff) was all that was offered by Mercury up until just a few years ago when they came out with the M8 drives. (Apart from the low hp Gear Lube for small outboards)

I don't ever remember merc having a separate lube prior to that, we ran lots of that blue green oil in #III #IV and #V drives, and i know of plenty of guys that used to run it in #VI drives as well.

That Merc Racing oil is a relatively new product.

90 weight HI Performance is what we started using when the Bravo came out and we started using it in all Alphas as well

No what do all these oils have in common? The are the same except the label. Quicksilver is usually branded for WalMart/ Kmart/ west Marine etc. the Mercury Brand is usually for mercury dealerships

Mercury fluids can only be sold by Merc certified dealers.

Quicksilver can be sold anywhere Brunswick can get their product in. Most Quicksilver products, fluids, and including parts, are the same part number with 710 in front of the Mercury part number.

The parts and fluids are identical except for the label.

Gear oil. The green oil is is a different weight than the honey colored oil. I think the honey colored is the flavor of the week. Idk if its actually any better than the green.
