My grandson son will be 2 soon and would like to get him a RC Jeep/Truck.
I grew up with RC buggys/trucks and street cars and believe they teach some valuable skills.

Any suggestions on brands/model's?
He loves Jeeps, he has Jeep toys and has a Jeep remote control Powerwheels I drive them in and of any vehicle in the driveway or garage goes straight for my Jeep or the John Deere tractor. So I would prefer a RC Jeep.

I would just check target or walmart. I buy my 2 year old son a new little cheap RC car every now and then. He is actually picking it up pretty good. I let him steer or push the throttle on my traxxas car but no way is he even close to ready for something like that. I would go the cheap route first and slowly build up to nicer and faster cars

I bought my kid a Traxxas Stampede for that purpose.

I bought a slower motor, geared it way down, and put it in kid mode for 50% power.

The problem will just be the size of the little guys hands.

Monster Jam, Official Megalodon Storm All-Terrain Remote Control Monster Truck Toy Vehicle, 1:15 Scale https://a.co/d/bPhmIy6

My son has this one and the grave digger one. The megalodon one is faster by far and we have recently started taking it to glamis. The wheels turn like a skid steer (there is still a left and right control) so it turns kinda funny but makes 360s easy. Usb rechargeable, but you can't swap batteries, so there's a wait involved with your next run.
The grave digger one is fine for in doors, as I don't think it goes fast enough to break anything in the house. Has traditional steering and also usb rechargeable.

I think next year when he's 4 I'll move him up to a real rc truck, maybe my old tmaxx or ill get him something else.

This my neighbors son has one and he’s that age and breaks everything! It’s lasted longer than I expected.

So you think the Grave Digger would be better for the 1st one?
Would it do fine on tile floors and outside on the patio?
I see a lot of ones for toddlers but most dont turn left and right, just forward and spins in reverse. I rather a figures out how to start from the beginning.

I have bought small micro RC cars for my son and me every year since he was about 2. I just go to the hobby shop and see what is cheap and made by a name that I know. Actually, after reading this, I am reminded and going to head over there today.

Dont get a target RC car. They have poor batteries that charge via USB and take FORRREEEVER to charge with little runtime. I snagged my kiddos a pair of traxxas slash trucks. You can set the speed controller to a slow "learning mode" which cuts power. The best part is the batteries last forever in training mode... a few HOURS, charge quickly, and there are replacement parts for any of it, along with upgrades. It should last them forever.

I have the Grave Digger and would not recommend it for 2 yo. It can hurt some body.😎

Well unlike the others here as I have a 2 year old I would suggest something like this. It’s $20, only one button. Forward is forward. In reverse it turns clockwise. It takes AA and lasts years. I don’t think you’re going to be Money ahead on an 80mph Traxxis slash.

He started with that at 2 or less. Has been graduating to bigger stuff under $100 but all of it stops working shortly after purchase because it’s all Chinese junk. Decided to jump up.

The OP said he was looking for something for his grandson that is under 2 so I was just giving him a more reasonable option if you actually want the kid to learn how to drive it. I have a Traxxis Raptor R and a Losi Promoto and my 2 year old likes watching them and pushing them around but has no business trying to drive one. If it’s for GPA to have fun with and kid to just watch then I guess you can go all out.

Axial SCX 24 would be my recommendation if you want to go name brand.

With those little rock crawlers you can reduce the power to a pretty dang slow crawl. On the controller there’s 50/75/100 switch that gives 50% voltage 75% or 100% to the motor to crawl at different speeds. And replacement parts average anywhere from $5-$20 for almost everything.

we have a few of those, from stock to completely mod'd...they are so affordable and fun that I have two completely stock ones that I just keep in my toy hauler so that they are always available for anyone to use...we have had hours of fun around a stack of campfire wood finding and creating different lines...

I bought a cheap RC car at target and it was like $70. Broke in 10 minutes. Waste of $70. Got my kid one of the real small traxxas cars that you can put in kid mode. He drove the shit out it. Once he got the hang of it and was driving fast he broke an A arm. No biggie, they’re like $7 on Amazon. Way better than buying junk.

These look cool. https://m.traxxas.com/products/landing/trx-4m/

Hello Sir.
My name is float n turd.

I can cook my own food, I clean toilets, I DO NOT "Backtalk" or Sass my Elders.
I have a job and a fast boat.

If you can buy your 4 yr son a $1,200 Traxxas......I would like to be your son as well.

Please PM me if interested.
I would like to meet for an interview.
Thank you Sir for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

💯. Agree with this. Or any FMS RC crawler allows you to regulate speed.

Might as well get used to properly controlling the RC. It’ll make for an easy transition.

I purchased my daughter this RC as a basher:

HAIBOXING 1/18 Scale Brushless Fast RC Cars 18859A, 4WD Off-Road Remote Control Trucks

It allows speed control and solid. We beat it up and still rolls.

The traxxas trucks are great, my son loves his trucks. Only thing I will say is the controllers are kinda big for him, at 3 he could barely pull the throttle trigger. Now at 4 he drives really well, but reverse is still a 2 handed operation for him.
