There was a time when Butkus was often seen on the side lines of the Camarillo High football games. He became involved via his friend Steve Thomas, owner of the BMW dealership in Camarillo. There were games without Thomas in attendance. But, Butkus was there, supporting the team on the side lines. FWIW - Camarillo also won their division CIF Championship that year. No recruiting, no scholarships.
