Stupid questions I am sure but here goes

I’ve come across probably 100 savings bonds ranging from $50 to $100 on each of them
Dates start from about 1989-2003
Have they all matured or just the ones at 30 years?
And are any worth more the than stated on the bond after interest / time adds up?

TIA

If they have matured it depends on the type of bonds they are. If they have matured they will be worth more than face value.

U.S. Savings Bonds mature after 20 or 30 years, depending on the type of bond:
  • Series EE bonds mature after 20 years. They are sold at half their face value and are worth their full value at maturity.
  • Series I bonds are sold at face value and mature after 30 years.
  • Series HH bonds mature in 20 years.

They all seem to be series EE
The little woman is off the credit union tomorrow to see what’s up. Just wanted to know what to expect.
The kids will be happy. ( if I tell them) 🙄🙄😱

Kinda ironic, my wife couldn’t find our marriage certificate, so I was helping her look for it last night and I found some old saving bonds and was thinking the same thing you were. Lol.

That’s how we came across these. The wife was cleaning out the spare bedrooms closets and here they are.

I have about 100 of the EE bonds that are buried somewhere in one of 4 safes. I've looked and failed. This thread is reminded me to keep looking!

put the numbers in the bond calc online and see what they are worth. My mom recently gave me a bunch from when I was born. I had a bunch of 100$ savings bonds and they were EE most were worth about 250 or so

So I checked a few. Most are at least double. And it’s looking like the kids are getting less and less. I’m keeping it all😱. Just kidding. I think they will all be pleasantly surprised since they are all but forgotten about. 👍
