Lytle Creek is my usual outdoor range. Its much closer to ransburg, but its not free form and you have to follow the range rules.

If you want to do your own thing you can also go to raahauges and just rent a whole bay and run your own show.

Aren't there some places in the Barstow area? Down here in San Diego you can go out east by Ocotillo.

Yea there miles of land out there.

I try not shoot out there on the weekends, just too many people out riding and stuff. Not worth the risk me for me.

There are a few spots i've set up a 600-700 yard range shooting steel

South of I-15 (Lucerne and Johnson Valley) is OHV area therefore shotguns only. I haven't seen a BLM map in recent years, but north of I-15 used to have some pistol/rifle BLM areas.

This is technically correct from what I understand, but good luck getting an answer from them on this.

Look on the Cal-Guns site, they will have the most up to date info in the forums.

Once Steele Peak was shut down its really killed close open options. Lytle is ok but its still a range with rules and restrictions. We've driven out to Hodge road a few times now, just before Barstow. Don't pull off and set up in front at all, lots of amatuers. Take the time to drive back a ways and scout carefully. But once you get back from the main road a ways there are plenty of good spots for sure. Just keep an ear out for a random off roader to come up over your backdrop...that happened once.

I am in North OC, in Brea, OC indoor is 2 blocks from me, good for a quick run on a pistol range.

If I want to go with friends to a better quality facility, I go to Stanton, ironically, for FT3, nicest indoor range I have shot at. I have a friend in Walnut I shoot with quite a bit and we sometimes hit up the range in Puente Hills for a long indoor lane.

I checked with the BLM a few month ago and all BLM land in LA and SB is closed to shooting due to fire danger. The only BLM approved shooting is outside of palm springs...2 different canyons.

I've been a couple of places with friends that are fish and game and they say "It's OK, doen't worry about it" but if I'm on my own and no sheild to ameliorate the situation, the a public range it is.

I Like Angelus Range, but a drive...

The only problem I've had with Burro is getting in sometimes, that place gets packed. And forget trying to get a private lane unless you reserve MONTHS in advance. But they do have a legit setup, I've done some classes and competitions there.
